Every product on the shelf was pink. Pink caps, pink glass, pink bottles, pink tubes. And the comments said skin goals.

CARMINE MONTALTO was horrified. He’d been a marketer at L’Oreal. He knew the move: make the package pink, and you’ll believe the pink says something about what’s inside.

Looking down the shelf, he knows that the products are … terrible.

BUT he didn’t troll the post. He built his own brand instead, SKINCARMA® , to educate about skincare and about what’s real.

Asked what book she would write, Octavia Morgan, CEO of Octavia Morgan™️ ,  didn’t say a business book. She said the one about how you keep going.

Holding the vision takes energy. You have to believe in it harder than your whole team does, then keep pouring into them, the meetings, the retailers, all of it.

Her partner Delaney puts it as a question she keeps coming back to: how do you break before you break?

“When we’re at our best, we give our best.”

Be a better mom. Be skinnier. Better skin, better hair. At some point you ask who’s actually telling you this.

Michelle Freedberg is a licensed therapist who has spent more than 15 years specializing in women’s mental health. She has a love-hate relationship with social media, with stretches where she’s gone off it completely.

Her question for the feed cuts through all of it: what’s the criteria of this person telling me how I should live? They just happen to have a lot of followers.

“It can feel just like a constant barrage of somebody else telling you how to live.”

You can chat with someone for 30 minutes...
Then you hit record, and suddenly the wall goes up.

Sherry said the hardest part of hosting a podcast is in fact:
"Getting the trust of the guest."

Once the camera is rolling, it's easy to fall back on polished answers and rehearsed stories. The best interviewers don't just ask great questions, they create enough trust for people to stop performing and start being themselves.

That's where the real conversation begins.

Have you ever noticed yourself answering differently once the camera starts rolling?

A creator relationship has two sides. Brit Starr, Co-founder at Kin, measures both.

When does the creator post about the brand, message them, take part in some way. And when does the brand post that creator’s content on its own channels, pull them into campaigns, message them.

Look at those interactions over time and you get the accountability along the way. The patterns of success. A clear read on when you need to show up for your creators.

“When does the brand give that back?”

The biggest retailers are sitting on mountains of customer data and barely know what to do with it.
ai Chaz Giles has seen it from the inside. One of the largest specialty retailers, tens of millions of loyalty members, hundreds of transactions each, and the shopping experience still runs on “people who bought this also bought this.”

The data is already there. The opportunity is connecting it, so shopping feels less like a generic algorithm and more like a personal concierge built for you.

“Amazing and embarrassing at the same time. How much data they had, and how much data they did not understand how to use.”

Maggie Spicer expected investors to push back hard on ESG ratings. The pushback never really came.

To an investor, an ESG rating is not a political statement. It is a read on whether a company keeps high quality talent and follows chemical safety rules.

For a beauty company, that is what is materially relevant. And there is nothing woke about wanting the companies you invest in to be run responsibly.

“There’s nothing woke about that. It’s just making sure you’re running your business responsibly.”

The beauty brands that survive the next few years won’t be the loudest. They’ll be the ones that can prove their results.

has advised 112 brands. Her read on what’s coming: the clinical side of beauty is about to become much bigger, and biotech innovation is just getting started.

The brands built on a vibe, with no proven results, don’t make the cut.

“The consumer wants results, they want results fast.”

The brands winning on TikTok Shop aren’t the ones treating it like a campaign. They’re the ones treating it like infrastructure.

Pete D spent years inside TikTok. Now his agency, Grant Digital, helps beauty brands sell on TikTok Shop. His point: looking at the channel in isolation misses how it actually works.

People discover a product on TikTok. A lot of them finish the purchase somewhere else, in a store. That isn’t the channel failing. That’s the channel working as one part of a bigger system.

The brands that win zoom out and join the dots.

“The brands that are really winning are the brands that are joining the dots.”

The best message doesn’t always come from the most qualified person.
Sometimes it comes from the person who feels the most relatable.

In this clip from Minutes With Mike, shared something that really stuck with us.

When a message is delivered in a way that feels approachable, human, and free of judgment, people are more likely to listen.

This is why people often learn better from someone they see as a friend or peer.

This is an important reminder that:

👉Communication isn’t just about being right.
It’s about understanding who you’re speaking to and meeting them where they are.

Thank you to Aja Dang for sharing this perspective and helping us understand why the right creators can have such a powerful impact not because they know more, but because they know how to connect.

Do you learn best from experts, peers, or a mix of both?
