Once again, a lot of this comes back to leverage and well… feeling like you don’t have any.⁣
⁣
But you 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 have leverage no matter where you are in your career.⁣
⁣
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 makes us take gigs that run hours behind schedule…⁣
⁣
Charge ridiculous prices for tickets…⁣
⁣
Makes us beg our fans to buy those ridiculously priced tickets.⁣
⁣
I got news for you: if you treat your fans like they’re numbers, you’ll see your fan base drop to zero.⁣
⁣
𝗢𝗼𝗽!⁣
⁣
You are the filter between your fans and the experience they will have with you.⁣
⁣
If a 3rd party enters the picture whether it’s a venue, booker, or other, you’d better ensure that things are running as planned.⁣

It’s up to you because they won’t care.⁣

It’s not their stakes.⁣

It’s likely you’ve brushed away someone’s compliment before, minimizing your accomplishment because to you, it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. 🤷‍♀️ ⁣

But did you know that small victories are essential in our progression toward our big, lofty goals?🤔⁣

It’s time to stop being polite, and 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.⁣

𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 for the worst and 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 the worst are two different things.⁣

As musicians we have to prepare for the worst.⁣
⁣
Extra cables.⁣
Throat spray.⁣
Sound checks.⁣
⁣
…you get the point. That’s how you 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚.⁣
⁣
But to 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 the worst is a lie you’re telling yourself.⁣
⁣
Why?⁣
⁣
Because you think you’re saving yourself from disappointment or heartbreak if people don’t listen to your music or come to your shows.💔⁣
⁣

But that won’t last.⁣

So how do you expand your reach beyond people that know you?⁣

𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶. 👈🏻 I know it sounds simple, but people get it 𝘀𝗼 wrong.⁣

What not to do when finding community:⁣
⁣
🚫 Only showing up when it benefits you⁣
⁣
🚫 Having a motive beyond getting to know new people ⁣
⁣
🚫 Being insincere ⁣
⁣
𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚:⁣

🚫 Thinking “That’s too much work, I’ll just pay for more followers.” 🤦‍♀️⁣

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been able to tap into my community without shame or guilt all because I know we all support one another.⁣

And I have multiple communities - as should you!⁣
⁣
So ask yourself this 2023, should I put myself out there more?⁣

Are people not finding me because I haven’t bothered to 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢?⁣

What does that have to mean about YOU?!⁣

I’ll tell you one thing…⁣

It won’t mean s**t if you quit now.⁣

Do not, I repeat 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 depend on Spotify numbers to define your success.⁣

You are trying. You are still here. You are still showing up and claiming your artistry.⁣

And that is all that fu***ng matters.⁣

I saw my girl post about the major reality of how many artists get down on themselves during Wrapped season.⁣

And it scares me that so many artists will use their metrics as “proof” that they should just quit.⁣

That’s why I do wtf I do. ⁣
