For events taking place: July 1–September 30, 2026


If you are planning a literary event in New York to occur between July 1–September 30, 2026, you may be eligible to apply for a Readings & Workshops mini-grant.

Mini-grants pay writers who give readings or conduct writing workshops in diverse community settings throughout New York. Organizations, groups, and reading series are eligible to apply—nonprofit status is not required.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Good advice!

When books are run out of school classrooms and libraries, I'm never much disturbed.
Not as a citizen, not as a writer, not even as a schoolteacher, which I used to be.

What I tell kids is, don't get mad, get even.

Don't spend time waving signs or carrying petitions around the neighborhood.

Instead, run, don't' walk, to the nearest non-school library or the local bookstore and get whatever it was that they banned.

Read whatever they're trying to keep outof your eyes and your brain, because that's exactly what you need to know.

The Authors Guild has just updated its guide, "AI Best Practices for Authors." The guide emphasizes several risks authors face in using AI:

1. AI-generated text is not copyrightable, because it is not original human authorship. As such, AI-generated text that is included in a work submitted for copyright registration must be disclosed and disclaimed in the copyright application.

2. Inclusion of AI-generated text in the final manuscript may violate the writer’s contractual warranty and be a breach of the contract.

3. AI outputs may include recognizable elements from other authors’ copyright-protected works.
