Walker and created in collaboration with – we produced limited-edition, vanity-inspired seeding kits designed to help the modern woman of color who embraces versatile styles to “Respect, Protect and Perfect” her crown.

The custom, multi-tier box was designed with sustainability in mind, meant to be reused by recipients for functional storage of hair and beauty products.

After a two-year hiatus, Essence Fest announced its return to New Orleans!

We were thrilled to partner with the HBO multicultural marketing team to bring Scene in Black to NOLA for the first time ever, producing six experiences celebrating Black stories and storytellers on HBO and HBO Max.

From a welcome mixer curated by Edward Buckles Jr., director of the upcoming HBO Katrina Babies to an HBO Max POV Seated Brunch and Panel spotlighting HBO Max behind the scenes talent: Syreeta Singleton, Rikki Hughes, Edward Buckles Jr. and Joe Guidry, moderated by Danyel Smith, to a special Curls & Convo w/ Sienna Naturals co-founder Hannah Diop and celebrity hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood, Scene in Black was nothing short of a celebration of black joy!

Saturday evening, guests were transported to the 305 as attendees were treated to an exclusive screening of Issa Rae’s new series Rap S**t + a panel conversation with Rap S**t talent Syreeta Singleton, Sade Clacken Joseph, Aida Osman and KaMillion, moderated by Gia Peppers. To close the night, Scene in Black welcomed guests to the Ace Hotel for a private party with special performances by Light Skin Keisha and Kali, and music spun by DJ Kelly Green.

Scene in Black closed out Essence Fest weekend with a Creators Brunch, partnering with RnB House Party to gather creatives to eat, dance and drink the afternoon away and cement their weekend with one last hurrah!

Throughout the entire weekend, guests had the opportunity to enjoy the Scene in Black photo moments (both the entry wall and photo booth) as well as specialty cocktails and hand-picked bites all with a special New Orleans flair.

Follow Scene in Black to see what they have in store next!

In June, we partnered with Meta to host the first-ever , a one day activation in LA celebrating Black creators who are driving culture daily on platforms. It was a day built for community and championing Black creators through networking, education, inspiration and affirmation.

Themed “Future Ready”, creators were immersed in a futuristic experience where they could shop a curated group of Black-owned wellness brands, vibe with interactive installations, listen in on fireside chats and panels, capped off with a special appearance from Bia.

The day was truly a moment to celebrate and highlight Black creators!

“Here we go again. In a world stripped of distractions, some things are clearer than ever. Around the world you can feel our discomfort, we are outraged, awake, and we are tired of waiting. As far as I can remember, there’s always been a chalk line drawn in the concrete of our communities. I was raised to be a freedom fighter, singing “which side are you on, children, which side are you on”. ⁣

Greetings from the dystopia. We’re living in an age of global pandemics, civil unrest, climate change, actual murder hornets and a rudderless White House that begins to smell more authoritarian with each passing Tweet; some days, the highlight reel of anxiety-inducing headlines that is CNN could be mistaken for a prequel to The Hunger Games.⁣

If we’re going to make it to the other side of our seemingly endless ocean of crises, we’ll need leaders to plot our course and a community to row us ashore. For the latest issue of our zine, Team Epiphany Times, our staff examines the meanings of leadership and community in the current climate and how the presence of both can effect meaningful change in the world.⁣

Team Epiphany Times Issue No. 2: Leadership & Community is available now.
