LDSA, LFA Strengthen Partnership to Advance Deaf Football in Liberia
The Liberia Deaf Sports Association (LDSA) has described as productive and encouraging a high-level meeting held with the Liberia Football Association (LFA) aimed at strengthening cooperation and expanding opportunities for deaf football in Liberia.
The meeting took place on June 18, 2026, at the LFA Headquarters in Congo Town and brought together officials from both organizations to discuss support mechanisms and the future growth of disability sports.
The LDSA delegation was led by Board Chairman Bryant McGill and included President Octavius Vorkpor and interpreter Joshua Gargar.
According to LDSA, the engagement initially sought to express appreciation to the LFA for integrating deaf football into Liberia’s broader football structure but later evolved into broader discussions on development and institutional support.
During the meeting, the association highlighted several challenges currently affecting deaf football, including:
* Limited training opportunities for deaf coaches
* Need for referee development programs
* Lack of office space and operational support
* Capacity-building needs for long-term growth
Responding to the concerns, LFA President Mustapha Raji reaffirmed the football body’s commitment to strengthening deaf football and increasing inclusion within the national football framework.
As part of the commitments announced during the engagement, the Liberia Football Association disclosed that the Liberia Deaf Sports Association will now receive voting rights at the LFA Congress.
According to the LFA President, the association will also benefit from:
* Annual financial support
* Football equipment assistance
* Access to benefits available to affiliate organizations
* Additional opportunities for institutional development
Mr. Raji further pledged to engage FIFA on identifying additional support opportunities and encouraged LDSA to submit development proposals for future consideration.
Speaking following the meeting, LDSA President Octavius Vorkpor thanked the Liberia Football Association for its continued support and recognition of deaf football.
He also revealed that Liberia Deaf Sports has recently gained admission into the International Deaf Sports Association, a development expected to create opportunities for broader international participation and collaboration.
According to stakeholders, the strengthened partnership reflects growing recognition of inclusive sports development and the importance of ensuring that athletes with disabilities have equal opportunities to compete, develop, and represent Liberia.
Officials expressed confidence that continued collaboration will help elevate deaf football and create a stronger pathway for future generations of athletes across the country.
