Having chosen the forests of New Zealand for their livelihoods, the animals began to destroy valuable tree species that were considered endemic to New Zealand. The leaves of these trees turned out to be so tasty for animals that up to fifty individuals of kuzu lived on one hectare, which was 25 times higher than the population density of kuzu in the expanses of the Australian continent. After some time, the population density dropped significantly, about 5 times, but it was not possible to save valuable tree species. Having actively “worked” on these types of trees, the Kuzu switched to other types of vegetation, although they were inferior in terms of gastronomic indicators.
