challenges of other African Children. It is also an annual opportunity for all of us, to reflect on our children.
Annual Fundraising Luncheon -December
The annual luncheon usually held on the first Friday in December is a follow
-up to the fundraiser concert organized by UNAMA in 1984

The History
The United Nations African Mothers Association
(UNAMA) was formed in November 1984 at a time when famine and distress in Africa, emanating from both natural cause and political strife, was brought to the attention of the world.
African women in the United Nations system, mostly wives of African Ambassadors, came together to form an association which at the time was called the United African Mothers for the Crisis.
Out of concern for the Mothers and children, and with the help of friends of Africa around the world, UNAMA organized the "Concert of Africa" in 1985 and raised an amount of $50,000 which was donated to the United Nations Secretary Generals Emergency Fund to further its work in Ethiopia and other areas in crisis on the African continent. That was UNAMA's first commitment.
Today, as in the past, UNAMA is comprised of Ambassadors wives, Diplomats, United Nations staff, wives of UN personnel, and friends who share the same objectives. The Association is a non-profit, non-political and humanitarian organization whose objectives are to work towards alleviation of critical socioeconomic problems in Africa, project a positive image of Africa and its people, foster friendship and solidarity among its members and community at large.
