When I started my virtual assistant business nobody sat me down and said here is everything you need to know.

Nobody told me how to figure out which services to offer based on my background. Nobody told me what to charge or how to build a pricing structure that actually made sense. Nobody told me how to put together a portfolio before I had a single paying client. Nobody told me what to say when I reached out to a stranger about hiring me. Nobody told me how to write a contract or what to do when a client started asking for more than we agreed on. Nobody told me when to raise my rates or how to have that conversation without losing the client.

I had to learn every single one of those things on my own. Through trial and error. Through mistakes that cost me time and in some cases money.

So I wrote it all down.

Not as a generic list of tips you could find anywhere. As a real, detailed, step-by-step framework built from 6 years of admin experience and over a year of running my own business. With a full workbook so you can apply every piece of it to your own situation as you go.

Everything nobody told me is now in one place. For you.

No gatekeeping. No fluff. Just everything I know.

In March of 2024 I got laid off. It was not the first time. It was actually the second layoff in less than a year.

I did everything right. Updated my resume. Tailored my applications. Showed up prepared to every interview. And kept getting rejected or hearing nothing at all.

After months of that I made a decision. I was done waiting for someone to choose me. I was going to build something for myself.

I started my virtual assistant business in September of 2024 with little to no money, no clients, and no guarantee that any of it would work. I used the skills I had spent six years building in corporate admin roles and figured out how to offer them on my own terms.

And it worked.

I wrote down everything I did, the setup, the outreach, the pricing, the mistakes, the things I would do differently, so that you do not have to figure it out alone the way I did.

If you just got laid off, if you are tired of the job search going nowhere, if you are ready to stop depending on someone else to decide your income, this book was written for that exact moment.

Have you been Googling "How To Start a Virtual Assistant Business" for weeks and still feel like you have no idea where to actually begin?

You are not behind. You are not missing something obvious. You just have not found a resource that actually breaks it down in a way that makes sense for someone starting from zero.

I spent months answering this exact question in my YouTube comments. People who just got laid off. People who are tired of the nine to five grind. Parents who need income that fits around their family. People with years of admin experience who had no idea they could be doing this for themselves.

Every single one of them was asking the same things.

So instead of answering one comment at a time I wrote a book.

'Starting Your Own Virtual Assistant Business From Scratch' covers EVERYTHING from figuring out your services and setting your rates to finding clients, running discovery calls, writing contracts, and building something that actually lasts.
14 chapters.
Full workbook.
Real emails I personally sent.
Real pricing I actually charged.
Nothing held back.

If you have been thinking about this and do not know where to start, this is your starting point.

📲 Considering UGC?

UGC stands for User Generated Content.

Basically brands pay people like you and me to create authentic content for their products and services. You do not need a massive following. You just need to be able to create good content.

Here’s are some platforms worth looking at:

Cohley: Great for creators who want to work with established brands on photo and video content at a larger scale

Insense: One of the most popular platforms right now. Great for beauty, fashion, wellness, or lifestyle content. They handle contracts, payments, and usage rights for you

Social Cat: Great for building your portfolio through gifted and low commitment brand deals ⭐ Beginner friendly

SHOUT: Connects creators with brands looking for short form social content

Hummingbirds: Another great option if you are just getting started and want to ease into working with brands ⭐ Beginner friendly

: A premium platform focused on authentic storytelling. The content quality standard is high but so is the pay

BRKAWAY: A newer platform in the UGC space

Collabstr: Great if you want more control over your rates and direct relationships with brands. Better suited for creators who already have some experience

Vidsy: Focused on video content specifically and works with some well known brands

The ones marked with a star are the most beginner friendly so if you are just starting out I would go there first.

Do your research on each one before signing up and make sure you understand how payments and usage rights work on whichever platform you choose.

Feel free to drop some gems for the people in the comments. We would love to know which ones have worked for you.

One of the most common questions I get is, where do I even find clients as a virtual assistant?

So let me break it down for you right here. 👇

Finding clients is honestly one of the parts of this business that intimidates people the most. Especially if you are an introvert like me. But here is what I know for sure; you CANNOT wait for clients to find you.

💻 Here is where to start looking online:
LinkedIn — this is where I found most of my early clients. Search for people posting about needing help and reach out directly. Post consistently about your services and your niche.

Facebook groups — local business groups and entrepreneur communities are gold. Someone in the group always knows someone who needs help.

Fiverr and Upwork — built-in audiences already looking to hire. Great for beginners who want a head start.

Indeed and ZipRecruiter — search virtual assistant under remote jobs. More people are posting there than you think.

Instagram and TikTok — post content that attracts inbound interest. Just make sure you are actually monitoring your comments and DMs.

One thing I want to be clear about: reach out with intention, not just volume. Look for people who are already signaling that they need help. A warm lead will always convert faster than a cold one.

In Chapter 10 of the book I go deep on all of this.

Let's talk about the question I get asked more than any other. How much should I charge as a virtual assistant?

And I am going to be real with you the way I always am. 💬

When I first started I had NO idea what to charge. I was afraid of asking for too much and scaring clients away. I was also afraid of asking for too little and not being taken seriously.

Here is what I wish someone had told me from the beginning:
Your rates are not random. They are built around your time, your services, your expenses, and your worth. And they are allowed to grow as you grow.

Here is a beginner-friendly starting point:
💰 Starter — around $300 per month
Up to 5 hours per week, 3 to 4 core services. Great for your very first client while you get your footing.
💰 Growth — around $500 per month
Up to 8 hours per week, 5 to 6 services. Add something extra like social media or a weekly check-in call.
💰 Premium — around $800 per month
Up to 12 hours per week, full service support. This is where you are doing it all.

These are just starting points!
The minute you get comfortable and start seeing the value you bring to your clients, you raise your rates. And yes, you might lose a client when you do. That has happened to me. It is not the end of the world and it is not a reason to stay stuck.

One thing I stand firm on: do not let anyone talk you out of charging what you are worth. Know your value and stand on it.

In Chapter 4 of the ebook I go into the full breakdown. How to build your three-tier structure, how to handle rate pushback without caving, when to raise your rates, and how to move clients from hourly to retainer.

A question I get ALL the time is. What does a virtual assistant actually do?
The answer? A lot more than most people think. 👇

Virtual assisting is not just answering emails and scheduling meetings. The umbrella is so much wider than that and honestly that is one of the things I love most about this career path. You can build a business around the skills you already have.

Here are just some of the services you can offer as a VA:
📌 General Admin
— Inbox and calendar management
— Travel planning and scheduling
— Data entry and research
— Document creation

📌 Social Media and Content
— Social media management
— Graphic design
— Content planning and scheduling
— Newsletter creation
— Podcast support

📌 Operations and Tech
— Project management
— CRM management
— SOP creation
— Client onboarding support

📌 Creative Support
— Blog writing and proofreading
— Video descriptions
— Event coordination
— Light bookkeeping and invoicing

The key is figuring out which services align with YOUR skills and background then building from there. You do not have to offer everything. You just need to know what you bring to the table.
In Chapter 3 of my new ebook I walk you through how to build your service menu from scratch, how to decide on a niche, and how to make sure you are not taking on more services than your time allows.

The book is available now — link in the comments.
