Chance Magazine

Chance Magazine Chance is an art magazine that looks at the world through the lens of theater and design. We've organized the magazine into 10 areas. Welcome to Chance.

Chance is a photography magazine that looks at the world through the lens of theater and design. We commission an original photo shoot of every show we cover and believe that superior visual documentation will transform the way we see and think about the theater and the people who design for it. Chance is about great photography and deep, honest and penetrating conversations. Interview - An extend

ed conversation with a remarkable creator and thinker in world theater accompanied by specially commissioned images illustrating the design in question. Document - A clean, noise-free look at a handful of designs with illuminating commentary and conversations about the path to creation and revision. Focus - An in-depth, high resolution still-life photo essay of a single design. featuring an innovative photographic process. Reality - A backstage or offstage shoot of people working in theater. Portfolio - A comprehensive look at the work of a designer over a span of productions. Performance - Our innovative photographic eye trained on live performance. Play - Completely unique.; Play asks: what if we use a new play to inspire an original, narrative driven photo-shoot . Play is unlike anything you have ever seen before in theater photography. Studio - A look at the sketches, models and preparatory/investigative documents of a designer, often from a previous generation. Book - Photographic innovator Stephen Joseph takes us into the studios of today's leading designers in stunning 360 degree panoramas where we ask them to talk about the books that have had the most persistent and decisive affect on their point of view. In short, Chance is a calm and balanced place to look at design, to consider the work and enjoy grounded, serious engagement about the American theater. So, we say hello to our friends in fashion, and architecture, and to designers everywhere. We say hello to theaters across America, Europe and Asia. We say hello to writers, journalists, and thinkers about the arts and literature.
