Today is May Day — a time to recognize the immense power we have in the fight for economic and social justice across the country.

This year, our incredible client, The Workers Circle, is demanding that we put workers before billionaires. As they say, “The change we need has never come from just voting harder or making one more phone call alone — every time abuse of power has been stopped, it’s been because labor and community moved in collective action.”

From rallies to marches to teach-ins to walkouts — and in many cities, a refusal of business as usual — the Worker’s Circle is uniting allies and advocates in the fight for justice.

Find events in your city and consider signing the May Day pledge:

At the TASC Group we think it’s important to give members of our team the opportunity to share their interests through “Passion PowerPoint Presentations.” We use these as opportunities to build our public speaking skills, but more importantly, to learn a bit more about each other.

Recently, our very own Paige Bohart and Kyle McIntyre took the time to share their own personal interests.

Kyle walked us through a brief history of improv comedy, giving our team the opportunity to participate in an interactive, office-wide improv game.

Paige’s love for art was on display as she acted as the team’s art teacher, providing a brief history of drawing techniques and helping everyone tap into their creativity.

Thank you to Paige and Kyle for sharing their passions with the team!

Recently, Catherine Wilson, the CEO of United Way of Greater Newark, joined the New Jersey Business Podcast to speak about her leadership journey, the responsibility of community-based work and what it means to be a woman leader today.

Reflecting on how her perspective has evolved, Catherine shared that “It’s one thing because you would see young male leaders, it wasn’t that for women. Looking back now, I feel more confident, and I feel more confident to make mistakes.”

Catherine’s candid and honest reflections are something everyone should listen to — whether you’re a leader now or hope to be one in the future.

Virginia Kase Solomón, president and CEO of Common Cause, joined the Mea Culpa podcast to discuss voting rights, ballot access and the pressures on American democracy.

Drawing on decades of work in civil rights and democratic reform, she outlined how election laws shape whose voice is heard as the country approaches another election cycle.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Earth Day is a time to celebrate our planet and reflect on our shared responsibility to protect it.

Climate justice does not exist in isolation. It is inseparable from issues of justice, equity and access, and the impacts of environmental harm are not felt equally. Those most affected are often those who have contributed the least harm and have the fewest resources to respond.

We are all connected by the world we share, and on this Earth Day, we encourage everyone to learn more about the ways climate justice intersects with social justice and equity for all.

Mayor Mamdani pledged to make New York a sanctuary city for the LGBTQ+ community. Sean Ebony Coleman, CEO of Destination Tomorrow, spoke with Nonprofit Quarterly about what that really means, noting that the Mayor’s office should prioritize funding community-based organizations that understand needs firsthand and already work within the community.

Expanding sanctuary protections does not undermine existing commitments to immigrants but rather strengthens the city’s broader promise of safety.

We are honored to highlight our new client, Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and founder of Nadia's Initiative : مبادرة نادية مراد.

Nadia is a leading advocate for survivors everywhere, using her personal experience as a survivor of the 2014 genocide of the Yazidi people and the destruction of her hometown in Sinjar, Iraq to drive global policy change and demand legal accountability. Through her advocacy, Nadia has catalyzed a global reckoning regarding the pervasiveness of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV).

Translating her lived experience into a lasting mechanism for advocacy and change, Nadia founded Nadia’s Initiative in 2018, a survivor-led organization rebuilding communities in crisis and advocating for an end to sexual violence as a weapon of war. Through both international advocacy and programmatic work, Nadia’s Initiative is a leading organization addressing the political, cultural and economic realities that lead to CRSV.

We are privileged to work alongside Nadia and the entire team at Nadia’s Initiative.

Learn more about Nadia and the organization here:

Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and UNODC Goodwill Ambassador, is a leading advocate for survivors of genocide and sexual violence. Nadia’s peaceful life was brutally disrupted in 2014 when ISIS attacked her homeland in Sinjar to ethnically cleanse Iraq of all Yazidis. Since Nadia's escape...

Why should I care?

This question sits behind the decisions of every reader, every journalist — or any other person you may be trying to reach. In PR, more often than not our job is to tell a story that compels people to act. When working with mission-driven organizations like we do at TASC, the stories told represent the lived experience of people around the world, and we must treat them with care and empathy.

Recently, Isabella Zorich, a junior account executive at TASC, authored a blog on why fiction reading helps us act with empathy and connect with the stories of those we may never meet. 📖

“Fiction reading is repetition training for that leap,” writes Isabella. “When we read novels, we find ourselves inside a character’s mind, separate from our own. We feel their fear on the witness stand, their shame after a grave mistake and their stubborn hope in the face of incomprehensible adversity. This practice mirrors the same cognitive move we ask of readers, journalists, donors and decision-makers every day. Psychologists call this 'theory of mind': the ability to infer the beliefs, intentions and emotions of another person, even when they’re very different from you.”

🔗 Read the blog here:

As PR professionals working in the nonprofit and advocacy space, we ask a lot of our audiences. We want them to care about people they may never meet, in communities they may never visit, facing crises they may never personally experience. That can be an enormous empathy leap.

Concerns over the justification for U.S involvement in Iran are continuing to grow following President Trump’s blasé remarks that he “doesn’t care” about Iran’s uranium stockpiles.

As a nuclear weapons policy expert and president of Ploughshares Fund, Dr. Emma Belcher, made clear that the risk we face has never been larger: “We are actually less secure now from the nuclear threat than we were before he started the war, because they still have the material and we still have no greater insight into the material and what they might do with it.”

As global tensions rise, expert voices like Dr. Emma Belcher’s play an important role in advancing discussions on nuclear security.
