Saturday night at Soho House West Hollywood didn’t disappoint.

Villanelle brought exactly the kind of energy you want in an intimate room - post-punk guitars, dark melodies, and a sound that’s entirely their own. The best kind of night.

“If there’s a viral moment in Tokyo at 2:00 AM, we can respond to that immediately.”

The artists who have the right team around them will always move first.

“Music was my way out of basically the gutter.”

At Soho House, we sat down with Rick Springfield to talk about the moments that shaped his career, from being kicked out of school and dreading the path back, to a chance encounter that changed everything.

Rick was discovered by Australian star Pete Watson, who saw him playing in a club and asked him to join his band. That moment put him on a path he’s been on ever since.

He also opened up about the creative process, how inspiration is just the beginning, and the real work is sitting down to finish what you started. And he made the case for why music belongs in every school, even though it’s often the first thing cut when budgets shrink.

“Music is a great time machine. It’s a very spiritual connection to be in a crowd that has the same attitude, and everyone’s connected.”

If your song is more than 50% AI-created, you can’t copyright it. Period.

Hillel Frankel of Entertainment Law Group and Novo Management and Publicity at Take Action x SXSW on the rules every artist using AI tools needs to know — including the requirement to disclose AI involvement if it’s 50% or less, or risk disqualifying your copyright entirely by misrepresenting your work to the Copyright Office.

Know the rules before you create.

“In a world where we don’t know what’s real and what’s artificial, more people are gravitating towards real experiences than ever before.”

Brian Mirakian, Senior Principal at Populous, at Take Action x SXSW on what AI and the rise of artificial everything is doing to live entertainment, and why authentic, in-person experiences are more valuable now than at any point in recent history.

The venue designers behind Wembley Stadium, the Sphere in Las Vegas, and Climate Pledge Arena are paying attention. Are you?

If artists are businesses *and they are* then why don’t they know anything about their customers?

Anj Fayemi, CEO of Rivet, at Take Action x SXSW on why the music industry’s relationship with fan data has never made sense, and how understanding your fans better is the key to building a smarter, more sustainable career.

Your fans are making decisions about you in TikTok feeds, Discord communities, and other social media. The artists who know that, and act on it, are the ones who win.
