This is an urgent warning to the citizens of our county.
You have to care enough to act.
Nearly every resident I have spoken with, easily 90% or more (and an NTH poll showed this as well) supports the same basic, reasonable idea: a clear, sensible ordinance that sets firm parameters for data centers seeking to locate in our county. Most people agree these facilities belong in heavy industrial zoning, not near homes, schools, or farmland or on RURAL CONSERVATION land for goodness sakes.
Yet two nights ago, our commissioners voted for a rulebook that does not make sense and does not protect citizens. On many levels, It was done in secret and devoid of OUR (the voting public's) input.
Opposition and concern alone is not enough. Talking about this on social media is not enough.
If we do not take tangible, documented action, this county will be reshaped without our consent.
I am stressing to you... If ordinary, voting citizens fail to step up now, data centers will run roughshod over this county in the next 5 to 10 years-and by then, it will be too late to undo the damage. There are several more just lined up, waiting to home themselves in this OBJ
This does not stop itself! It stops only when citizens are willing to sacrifice and do the WORK and sign petitions, show up, and demand accountability.
This is not hypothetical or alarmist. This IS the moment COWETA.
Here is your chance to act
SIGN THIS PETITION TO AMEND THE
ORDINANCE passed last night by county commissioners who acted without transparency or meaningful public input. I will not mince words when I say they are the absolute worst, selfish and derelict county commission I've ever seen (save for Mr. Mackenzie only who has consistently been on the side of residents, and voted "No" last night).
This ordinance sets standards for data centers proposed in Coweta County, standards that should have been shaped with residents from the start- but residents were ignored in favor of secret meetings with developers (arguably illegal if it can be proven). Instead, the voices of voters were once again sidelined.
