“Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.
Success requires sacrifices.” - KJC
We all have a way that we look at the world.
A lens through that we see everything through.
A worldview.
A paradigm.
A belief system.
All created by a set of laws and beliefs that were created by experiences and circumstances.
You can make a list of every belief and law you hold true on a sheet of paper and that would be your operating system.
The source code that all decisions, judgments, and actions would come from.
Looks like this:
“If this, then that”
For example,.. “If I’m rich, then I am evil”.. “If I am happy then I am greedy”.. “If someone looks like that, then they are bad”.. “If someone says this, they mean that”.. "If I do this, I will fail"
These are all built around past experiences.
Not Truths.
Only experiences that we perceive as truth.
But these laws can change over time.
I would like you to consider that all of the laws and beliefs that you have created who you are today.
The CURRENT version of YOU.
And this current version of you, let’s call it version 4.7 (V4.7), can only navigate the level of problems a V4.7 can handle.
In other words, the level of thinking that got you in this mess can’t get you out of it.
Or put another way, your current level of thinking is responsible for your current results.
And if you want to RISE above where you are now you will have up upgrade our operating system.
The problem is... Our current selves don't want to change.
It's comfortable.
So you have to kill it.
Version 4.7 needs to die so V5.0 can be born.
What does this mean?
Your current “if this, then that” rules and code need to be adjusted.
Your current beliefs about yourself, others, the world, business, money, family, and all the other things may have to change.
And yes, you can rewrite your code.
It’s not easy.
But it can be done.
Every day we are faced with opportunities to rewrite our operating systems.
For example, do you get road rage and immediately get upset and curse out someone who cuts you off?
Instead of yelling at them, calling them names, and getting angry, what if you just said to yourself...
(big breath) “It’s okay. That person is loved by someone and is important to someone. And they need to get somewhere and probably don’t even realize they cut me off. It’s cool. Does me no harm. I hope they have a great rest of their day.”
This is an example but it works.
Now, this example sets the stage for compassion but what about business?
Recently, I got taken advantage of.
I hired a big gun ads person.
Paid him a bunch of money upfront.
And then he disappeared.
Gone.
Along with all of my money.
That money and plan were going to take GRIT to the next stage of business.
And it’s all lost.
The old version of joey (Joey V3.2) would have been SO pi**ed.
He would have probably sent boxes of dog s**t to his house.
Added his phone numbers and emails to spam directories.
Blasted his name on social media and tagged all of his peers.
Crazy on revenge.
This year's version of Joey...
Wrote him a letter, got everything off my chest, and gave him a final chance to make good.
Then, simply disputed the transactions with my bank, and now it’s in their hands.
I will either get some of the money back... or I won't.
It’s just money.
We are entrepreneurs... we can make money in lots of ways and I’m not going to lose any sleep on this.
I am going to take that hate, anger, rage, and revenge energy I once had and channel it into PRODUCTION into the next strategy.
Which has already been born.
(in fact, with my new way of seeing things I realized that the new connections and opportunities that opened up BECAUSE of getting scammed have already had a positive ROI, more than what was taken)
I’m not telling you this to show off. (In fact, there’s not much to show off — I got scammed.)
But I’m telling you to show an example of a different version of me.
You have these different versions as well.
Sometimes it’s obvious when you have a new version of yourself being born.
Sometimes it’s not.
Some days I am disgusted by the way I handle things.
Some days I’m absolutely impressed and don’t even recognize myself.
All I know is that the quote above, “Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. Success requires sacrifices.”, is absolutely true.
We all want these BIG things.
Yet, most of the time unwilling to let certain parts of our operating system die.
We are comfortable with the way we do things.
In fact, we have major resistance to ANY change.
Where in your life do you need to change the way your current operating system is running?
Is it around how you value yourself?
How you think about money and making it?
Your work ethic?
Your current level and ability to think?
What part of you must die to be reborn into a new version of yourself?
This is a BIG question.
Wrestle with it.
Because if you can’t figure this out you are going to have a hard time being able to hit that BIG goal you have.
The question that you can ask yourself and dedicate at least an hour contemplating and writing down is,
“who would I have to become in order to have _________”
And write down the characteristics and beliefs of that person.
Then commit to becoming that person.
Let your old belief systems and patterns go.
You will have a constant force pulling you back into your comfort zone.
The status quo is the number one killer of success...
But that’s okay.
We have GRIT.
We have strength.
We have courage.
We have the resolve to see it through.
We will rise.
This is no easy mission.
Most people fail.
(more than 95%)
But you aren't most people.
So, good luck.
I look forward to meeting the next version of YOU.
Best,
Joey V6.0
P.s. this was part of a GRIT MKTR email to clients.
