The best partners are the ones willing to tell you no.
That was one of my favorite moments from my conversation with Nicky Senyard, CEO of Fintel Connect. She said something I've believed for years but rarely hear stated this clearly: "We would prefer not to take somebody's money if we don't think it's going to work."
That's it. That's the standard.
In banking and fintech, it's easy to chase the contract. It's harder to look a prospective partner in the eye and tell them "you're not ready" or that "we're not the right fit" and be able to walk away. But that's exactly what builds the kind of long-term relationships our industry actually runs on.
