Honest and creative storytelling is a powerful skill—but in a world that focuses on flash, it can be easily overlooked. Not this time. This time, it won an Emmy.
Last year, Otto teamed up with WHRO Public Media to co-produce and help film ‘Against the Current’, a documentary that explores how residents of Virginia’s Eastern Shore are dealing with the deeply human impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. Our work highlights how rising waters are affecting livelihoods, particularly in the fishing, crabbing and farming industries. It's a story of community and resilience, and of a people who see the results of climate change lapping at their front doors.
‘Against the Current’ won two Emmys: One for best documentary, and another for best director (Lisa Godfrey). We’re proud to partner with WHRO on projects that explore issues important to our community. It’s always nice to receive recognition for our hard work, especially when that also means expanding recognition of a critical environmental issue.
