A lot of people have been lamenting over the “washout” expected over the Memorial Day Weekend. I get it. What a drag with nothing but cool temps and rain in the forecast instead of a sunny three day kickoff to summer. But as we focus on what Memorial Day is really about, imagine facing the rest of your life without a son or daughter, mother or father, who gave their life fighting for our freedoms. That is the reality of our friend George Lutz, who lost his son, Army Corporal Tony Lutz in Fallujah in late 2005…cut down by a snipers bullet. Tony played high school baseball with my oldest son Andrew, so this really hit home. Within two years, George had formed a nonprofit called Honor and Remember, to show public gratitude for the sacrifice of ALL our military who died in the line of duty. He designed a beautiful flag that is now flying throughout the country. NASCAR has been an amazing partner to help spread the awareness for this vital charity throughout the country as well… And this weekend in Charlotte, Goodyear is taking a resonated step to support these Goldstar families. EVERY Racing Eagle Tire will have the Honor and Remember logo on the sidewall. What a victory lap for George, his growing staff and the legions of supporters that have been with him now for nearly 20 years. However you celebrate Memorial Day weekend, Julianne and I hope you will join us in supporting this vital mission. Please visit their website and help out if you can. 🇺🇸
🇺🇸 “We are humbled that Goodyear Racing has taken this significant weekend to send this specific message of appreciation for our nation's fallen heroes and their families. Goodyear is establishing a precedent to reach millions with this important message.” ~ Honor and Remember Founder George Lutz
Goodyear to run “Honor and Remember” sidewall at Charlotte Motor Speedway: Since 2010, for one weekend each NASCAR season, Goodyear has changed the sidewall branding on its racing tires as a show of support for the United States military and fallen heroes. This being the 16th year of that program, the official tire supplier to NASCAR’s top three series worked with the “Honor and Remember” organization. The standard “Eagle” on the tires’ sidewall will be replaced by the Honor and Remember logo on all Cup Series, NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Craftsman Truck Series tires at Charlotte Motor Speedway this week, as is part of the industry-wide effort known as “NASCAR Salutes.”
Honor and Remember is a national organization based in Virginia that has a mission to “perpetually recognize the sacrifice of America’s military fallen service members and their families.” The organization recognizes fallen military personnel from all wars or conflicts, and those from all branches of service. They do so primarily by dedicating the specially designed Honor and Remember flag, which is intended to fly continuously as a tangible and visible reminder to all Americans of the lives lost in defense of our national freedoms. – NASCAR First Alert
