A little bit of Italy, a little bit of Japan, a whole lot of crazy breathtaking… right in the heart of Richmond.

Maymont Italian and Japanese Gardens feel like two completely different worlds… one grand and romantic while the other quiet, peaceful and made for slowing down.

Proof you don’t have to travel far to find something beautiful.

I really enjoyed making this cut… Something about the way all the plants, textures, colors and architecture worked together to create these gorgeous scenes really inspired me to tap into a different approach for the edit. My process has always been shoot a ton THEN find the music that speaks to me and I edit it all down from there.

Then I found this track, “-take7” by DuB.L.Oh.SkYtZo Dub.L.Oh.SkYtZo. on SoundCloud and kind of like the settings in the gardens, it stopped me to where I felt like it just begged me to chop the video down to it… joint is craaaazy!!

For as long as I been using VideoLeap I never really tapped into the effects…again, this was a fun one!

Joining Black BRAND was one of the first things I did upon going back to work for myself. For years, I had heard so much about the organization and thought it would be an opportunity to learn from others while also getting myself in front of potential clients… it’s been that and so much more!

Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to not only provide consulting services to some incredible business owners, but also share insights and experiences to help entrepreneurs “Come Correct” when presenting their respective businesses.

Recently, I was tapped by Brian himself to moderate a panel discussion during “Resonate: A Human-Centric Creative Tech Event,” where I was joined by an incredible group of creators and entrepreneurs for a conversation around strategy, creativity, and content creation.

And while it came with short notice … I got the details AND questions about an hour before arriving at the event 😅 …I’m incredibly proud of myself for being able to jump right in and ultimately facilitate an amazing conversation.
Since returning to work after my “hiatus,” it’s been cool to watch my work continue to take shape in this new era of life as an experiential marketing strategist, consultant, and mental health advocate.

Which is why I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to pop in on the homie Brenner of SCEND✦ and be given a platform to share a little more about what I’ve been up to these past couple of years.

And thank you for the meaningful conversation, Alana Mercedes 💫 ! I got to pop in on a couple of sessions before mine, and your ability to genuinely engage with your guests is really refreshing and appreciated!

For those who have been following along through all the pivots, pauses, changes, and growth… THANK YOU SO MUCH for the continued support.

When I pull up to do workshops people are always bugged out over seeing all the plant 🌱 specimens and natural elements that I have on my tray for them to use.

I mean, it’s exciting because I get to tell them,

“It’s all from my yard or neighborhood!”

What a wild 48hrs it’s been fam… thank you for your patience, thanks for the support, thanks for your understanding and support ❤️❤️

The first official Swap Meet will be taking place at MyMamasKitchen Saturday 9/19 (Day before my birthday 👀)

As I mentioned in my last post, I want this to be a true example of what it looks like when a community comes together for something different, something fun and some exciting!

It’s come to my attention that the use of the word “vendor” is confusing so I’m changing it out for “Swappers” or “Traders”… individuals interested in participating in the swap, This is open to ANYONE!

Want to swap plants, clothes, shoes, magnets, original art, stickers, rocks, bottle caps, LITERALLY whatever you have, DM me please I’d love to chat. Think of flea market, yard sale swap meet vibes except instead of exchanging money we are trading.

So, plan to come, swap, trade, socialize (meeting someone new is encouraged!) and when you get hungry OF COURSE the kitchen will be open serving up your favorites!

Big green dumpster full of EXPENSIVE “Community Playthings” classroom/library furniture… tables, storage, chairs, cribs, shelves, you name it!

Looks like the Child Development Center is closing or getting renovations… hate to see this stuff go to the landfill. Do you own a childcare center, school, work at a church or nonprofit? This stuff is gold!

This video was taken yesterday, drove past this morning and it’s all still there… PLEASE SHARE!!

Saw Kai make a very poignant “rant” post about his recent album release (joint is 🔥btw) and the burn rate in which people consume content these days. Whether it be short or long form video, physical art mediums like photography or literature … especially music and albums/ whole projects.

Instead of living with an album for weeks or months, many people hear it once, save a couple songs (if any), and move on because there’s already something new waiting.

The streaming, infinite scrolling, and algorithmic feeds give that dopamine hit resulting in a reward novelty and constant output... which is the overall goal and system of these types of platforms unfortunately.

With whatever it is that you are doing, I hope that the work I do helps to remind YOU to continue to slow down …leave a bit more room for reflection and celebration because you absolutely deserve it.

This weekend we had the chance to head back to Fredericksburg and spend a few days with my parents.

It’s been about a year since we moved, we hadn’t made it back because they’ve been deep in the middle of a major home renovation. Even though the house is very much a work in progress, the love and warmth never left and for that I’m incredibly grateful.

With the entire main floor basically empty, it was still the regular gathering space. So much room for activities like, running, spinning, launching foam rockets, and the perfect place to let those Wall-E robots they forgot about roam freeee!

The kitchen is stunning, yet so different. The massive live-edge island, is a great display of my father’s artistry but also the spot for very serious games of Uno…Pop also made his famous pancakes, of course.

The timing was funny tho… We left Norfolk just as MacArthur Center officially closed its doors, only to find ourselves at Spotsylvania Towne Centre (Mall) for a completely different mall experience where the theater we saw Toy Story 5 was packed!

The boys got to spend time with old friends, we murked a couple Freddy’s Donuts, Tala Joy and I played in a rain storm, Nanny surprised the kids with sparklers, and Leo adorably thought a flash of lightning was fireworks.

Heidi Joy and I had hoped to wander downtown a bit to celebrate our fifth anniversary, but them temps had other plans. With a heat index around 114°, even the Rappahannock felt more like a giant hot tub than a river.

So, we kinda embraced a different celebration & escaped for a kid-free trip to our favorite food co-op, blowing a SNAP bag while happily doubling our points on fresh fruits and veggies in the process.

For the past few years, I’ve made it a tradition to take myself somewhere for either Father’s Day or my birthday.

Usually it’s a solo camping trip, somewhere within driving distance. A few days of wandering, taking back roads instead of highways, penny-pinching while also celebrating.

These trips have become my way of making sure I take care of myself and remind me what autonomy feels like!

This year brought me to the charming historic town of Sykesville, Maryland… it’s gem like this.

Sykesville is overflowing with local pride, artists, independent businesses, and one of those Main Streets that begs you to slow down and explore.

It’s also got its history. One stop in particular that stuck with me was the historic Colored Schoolhouse. It’s a reminder that history isn’t always tucked away in museums, sometimes it’s mixed into the places people pass every day.

One of my favorites was learning about local legend of the Snallygaster. The whole town has embraced the lore through murals, public art, and with a book, “The Curse of the Snallygaster”. It was fun wandering and seeing the different pieces... I wish I’d found a Snallygaster hat or T-shirt to bring home.

These little trips have also made me notice something bigger.

As I’ve wandered through small towns over the past few years, I’ve started to feel a shift. Maybe it’s just me, but after watching places like MacArthur Center close, it feels symbolic of something larger.

You know, like maybe places with art, conversations, and community are dope and kind of become the attraction, not just another place to buy things.

That part brings me joy. I’ve always believed the heart or culture of a destination isn’t just its location, architecture, etc… it’s the people showing up to rep it every single day.
