Glen Matlock’s ‘I Was a Teenage S*x Pistol’ Documentary Tells His Side of the Punk Saga

Four years after guitarist Steve Jones teamed up with director Danny Boyle to tell the saga of the S*x Pistols from his perspective in the FX miniseries Pistol, which took a somewhat loose approach to facts, founding bassist Glen Matlock has joined forces with directors Andre Relis and Nick Mead to tell the band’s story as he saw it in the new documentary I Was a Teenage S*x Pistol.

The film features new interviews with Matlock, Jones, S*x Pistols drummer Paul Cook, Bill Idol, Debbie Harry, and many other key figures from the punk scene. It will be available to buy or rent on digital streaming platforms on May 26. Pre-orders begin May 12 on Apple TV. In this exclusive clip, Matlock talks about co-writing “God Save The Queen.”

I Was a Teenage S*x Pistol is loosely based on Matlock’s 1996 memoir of the same name. “It was written as a way of me dealing with the aftermath of the initial S*x Pistols brush with fame and was a way of dealing with the manner I felt I’d been passed over in musical folklore, telling the tale of my contribution to the band — which I think without which the group wouldn’t have had the success it did,” he says in a statement. “It speaks of behind-the-scenes tales of internal politics and subterfuge and the battle to have a young man’s voice heard in the maelstrom that was about to ensue.”

J-Hope Previews New Concert Film With ‘Killin’ It Girl’ Performance

Hope on the Stage the Movie arrives in theaters worldwide on Nov. 12 and 15

J-Hope gave fans a peek at his upcoming solo concert movie, Hope on the Stage the Movie, on Wednesday with a clip of him performing “Killin’ It Girl” live onstage in South Korea.

The short video features the shirtless singer sporting a glittering jacket and jeans, while dancing to the track (which features a guest verse from Memphis rapper GloRilla) surrounded by backup dancers. Produced by Cirkut, Inverness, and Blake Slatkin, the song dropped in June following his collab “LV Bag” with Don Toliver, Speedy, and Pharrell; “Sweet Dreams” with Miguel; and “Mona Lisa.” The new music arrived after J-Hope completed his mandatory military service in South Korea in October 2024.

His soon-to-be-released concert film chronicles the two-night finale of his Hope on the Stage Tour at Goyang Stadium and will arrive in theaters worldwide on Nov. 12 and Nov. 15. The movie will also include behind-the-scenes footage, tracks from J-Hope’s solo albums, special performances alongside his fellow BTS members, Jin and Jung Kook, and more.

Earlier this summer, BTS confirmed plans to officially return in 2026. In March 2022, the group announced an extended hiatus, which gave time for V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope to complete their mandatory military service in South Korea and pursue solo endeavors as musicians.

Following J-Hope’s discharge, he told Rolling Stone that the time away was “invaluable.” He said, “The thoughts I had during those times have become an inseparable part of me, nurturing and shaping who I am today. Ultimately, they have influenced the stories I tell, the music I aspire to create.”
