From packing the gear to “Ready to List” in one day. 📸🏡
Yesterday, I spent the day working with Hollie Curtis of Jason Mitchell Group Real Estate on another real estate listing.

The process started at the Shuttering Moments studio in North Providence, Rhode Island, packing up the gear and heading out to the property. Once I arrived, I had 19 minutes on-site to photograph the property and capture the images needed to get the listing ready.
Because of the time constraints on this particular shoot, we focused on professional real estate photography rather than adding video at the property.

Then it was back to the studio.

The editing process started, the images were carefully worked through, and by the time I looked up, it was 5:30 PM.

I started the day at 10:00 AM.

A few minutes later, the finished images were sent over, an email went out, and Hollie was ready to get the listing posted.

That’s a pretty normal day in the world of real estate photography and listing media. It’s not just showing up with a camera and taking pictures. There’s the preparation, travel, shooting, editing, quality control, delivery, and making sure the agent has what they need to get the property to market.
That’s what I enjoy about working with real estate professionals.

After 20+ years, here's what I've learned:

1️⃣ I started triple checking the background.
When editing, I focused WAY too much on the subject and not what’s happening behind them.
An exit sign, garbage can, or piece of trash…. Removing those takes your photos to another level.

2️⃣ I started moving more and taking less.
Instead of taking 20 photos from one angle, I move. Closer, farther, left, right, higher, or lower.
Sometimes a slight change in position can make a huge difference.

3️⃣ I started checking the lighting first.
This may sound suuuuper obvious, but natural lighting can be tricky.
What times of day work best?
Do I want the glow of golden hour or the moodiness of blue hour?
There’s nothing more frustrating than your subject squinting because the sun is at its highest.

4️⃣ I started slowing down.
Nerves to get everything “perfect” caused me to miss so many moments.
I had to learn the hard way to take the extra second and breathe. Slow down the moment and you’ll find there’s so much more you have to capture.

5️⃣ I started asking myself, “What am I really trying to say here?”
A photo isn’t just about perfection and trying to make everything look good.
It’s about telling a story, conveying a feeling, and proving why a moment matters.

I am still learning and growing with each shoot, but these are the top 5 things that have changed my photography the most, so far.

We had such a great time with the Burrillville Junior Hockey League, creating a video for their upcoming season, focusing on their new uniforms. These new uniforms showcase a retro logo, representing a new Broncos era.
