There was no greater compliment to me in my life at the time than the day you chose me to be your human.
We had delightful culinary adventures together. A devoted lover of croissants - and anything in a crinkly brown bag - food was our love language. You were my kitchen timer when turkey was in the oven. You were incredibly helpful at farmers markets; eating all the stray berries and tomatoes that had fallen to the ground so no one would slip on them; and always made sure we didn’t leave any yummy bits on the floor after meals. Your constant presence underfoot while in the kitchen will be missed. Your skill at conning us into treats, second breakfast and second dinner with one ear up, one ear down and big puppy eyes was unmatched. Always well played.
Before we met, you had a rough start that shaped who you were. I did my best to understand and protect you. I promised to give you a life where you were safe and loved, and to care for you always. It was fascinating to see who stuck it out to and who didn’t. The lessons I learned from you about animals, people, friendship, speaking up, and unconditional love are priceless.
You didn’t know your size and loved playing with the big dogs. I hope your friends Lafayette, Kenneth, Scooby, Simon, Zoey, Sarah, Tootsie, Spike and Wally welcomed you on the other side of the rainbow bridge. I hope you’re free of pain, and you’re all playing together in a magnificent field.
The miles we’ve walked together - and zoomies for you in the city, country, shorelines and hills - you loved hikes and trails. I will think of you on walks and hope you join me in spirit from time to time.
I know that now you’re free from pain and physical limitations. Your world is big again. Thank you for choosing me. I love you, Jasper. Always in my heart. Now you are everywhere. Now you are everything.
