Everyone keeps saying that AI will replace travel agents.

But according to a recent article from The Economist, the opposite is happening.

The number of travel advisors in the U.S. reportedly grew from around 190,000 to 310,000 in just one year. And LinkedIn listed travel advisor as one of America’s fastest-growing jobs.

Why?

Because people don’t just need someone to find a hotel.

They want personal recommendations, special connections and someone who can help when a flight is cancelled or something goes wrong.

AI can create an itinerary.

But it can’t personally take care of you—or take responsibility for your vacation.

Travel advisors aren’t disappearing. The profession is changing, and that is creating new opportunities to build income in travel.

Not every Maldives traveler wants exactly the same kind of luxury.

Some want complete privacy and silence.
Others want the overwater villa and private pool—but also beautiful restaurants, music, design and somewhere with a little more energy.

That’s what makes SO/ Maldives interesting to me.

It’s also approximately 15 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, which can make the arrival considerably easier compared with resorts requiring longer transfers.

For me, the question isn’t “Is this a luxury hotel?”

It clearly is.

The better question is:

Does this version of luxury match the way you like to travel?

When people think about making money in travel, they usually think of two things:

Becoming a travel influencer.
Or becoming a travel advisor.

But the travel industry is much bigger than that.

There are opportunities in:

• Travel advising & bookings
• UGC for hotels and travel brands
• YouTube & travel content
• Affiliate marketing
• Brand partnerships
• Hotel marketing
• Destination content
• Digital products & travel services
• Building recurring or leveraged income streams
• Social media & content creation for travel businesses

The question I would ask is not just:

“How can you make money in travel?”

It’s:

Where is money already being spent in the travel industry — and what skills can help you become part of it?

Because hotels, travel companies, destinations and brands all need attention, content, marketing, bookings and customers.

And you don’t necessarily need millions of followers to create value.

YouTube and Instagram can become powerful tools for building visibility, attracting opportunities, and creating an additional stream of income.

You can monetize your knowledge, skills, experience, interests, or even the journey you’re currently learning through.
