The healing process isn’t always a pretty one. Main stream media and SM trends paint a glamorous picture including spa days, candles, sage and mani-pedis. I am glad to know that the attention is moving in the correct direction but what isn’t always mentioned is that the process can actually be quite painful… like a hand thawing out after being in the cold for too long.
Avoiding the pain (and therefore true healing) is often the most common defense mechanism. Throwing ourselves into busy work and or playing the savior role in someone else’s story are a couple of the easiest ways to avoid looking at the things just beneath the surface. This was my story.
So many of us stay asleep in self-made pain prisons unaware of the sweetness on the other side of the hurt. Saying no to the things that no longer serve us frees up the space and time to look deeper. The bubble bath is rewarding when we take the time to actually dive beneath the surface to see the truth for what it is, unburden ourselves... lighten the load so that we can begin saying yes to the things that actually light us up.
