Thanks to my village for supporting Tay's fundraiser despite global challenges and doubts about the worthiness of travel as a cause. Fundraising and travel blogging are core aspects of their trip, and as a professional fundraiser, it's affirming to see this year's Travel Girl mantra on hoodies: 'We travel not because we want to but because we have to.' 💖😭🇵🇪

In other global news 📰 , I am pleased with me, me, me, myself and I 😂 for launching my first fundraising training for doulas and midwifery practitioners!

I’m proud of myself for getting out there and starting. My goal is to train 100 midwives and doulas this year! My vision is to support them in calling in sustainability into their respective practices! My mission is to instill calm, ease, and grace along the journey!

My first session was two hours and I delved into 10 fundraising strategies!!! I was only supposed to give 5! So those who registered and attended were truly poured into!

Participants showing their pages and pages of notes and sharing their testimonies with me was everything I needed to affirm and validate my path! We dug into shame around fundraising and releasing the strong woman tropes that keep us trapped in a vicious cycle of burnt out and lack!

Unfortunately, the evidence of fears and blocks around money, wealth, calling in and paying for help were apparent by the small number of people who registrants. Even when scholarships were offered!

It was intimate and all who were meant to be there were there. The participants who attended received a complimentary 30 minute 1:1 coaching session and a current funding opportunity that I personally connected them with!

Next, I’m excited to relaunch my 21-day Rewriting to Win: Journaling 📓 Challenge on April 1st.

And I’m happy to announce 📣 the details soon for my first training intensive, where we’ll work through and on the holistic (mind,body, spirit) as well current funding opportunities and strategies to build out a comprehensive fund development strategy plan. This offering will begin late April.

Writing 🖊 to Win Challenge 🏆 Day 19/21
“Day by Day, by Day, by Day”

💫 Everyday is uniquely designed and holds it’s own planetary codes. We know this, our grandmothers knew this, but using the cycles of the moon to practice manifesting daily through the energy of the day has been a powerful tool for me to organize my life. And get grounded and focused. Particularly around my own cycles as a feminine woman and creatrix.

😜 Before being introduced to this practice, I was chasing my tail, even as a new again Mom. Filling my life with things I didn’t really want to do. And held super anxiety about my/our schedules and maxed out calendars, bills and services. Letting life happen to me verses for me.

🥰 I’m forever grateful for being connected to a Teacher who starts here with the basics.

💪🏾On Tuesday: Day of Strategy & War, I ask for, call in, and receive strength, strategy, protection, clarity, wisdom, and new beginnings on my businesses, my blessings and services (debt/bills), my home and family.

I’m so proud of all my graduates. But this one hit different. Kicking of a series of grad days in my family is my sister. I can only imagine how she must feel today. She started this journey 18 years ago in New Orleans on a full scholarship in music and then had to pause soon after, choosing motherhood & then Hurricane Katrina. 😬

She worked hard through the years to return to school and was clear about her goal and held her vision to become a drama therapist. Well today is the day baby girl. You made it a few weeks before my nieces high school graduation! 👩‍🎓

I know it’s about more than that. I saw you were held on a pedal-stool, and pushed into the limelight from a young age. When you made a mistake many were quick to judge and try and tear you down. Well, today is your day. Today is for you. Stand tall and stand proudly. All your experiences have prepared you to be an amazing and highly competent therapist. Next stop Phd. But most of all I’m amazed at the interpersonal and spiritual work you’ve done during your time in this program. You have mastered yourself. And we align more than we ever have on this healing journey called life and sisterhood. Ma-Kee-dada Boo! 💥 🏆

Mother’s deserve to be honored, celebrated, and protected through every phase of the birthing journey. Especially Black mama’s. It is our birth right. It is ours to reclaim. In honor of mamas and birthworkers, I’m sharing my birth story, doula & birth work services by offering discounted consultations on the following:

Here’s a little bit about my birthing stories:

When I gave birth to my first daughter 15 years ago 😳 I had just graduated college and didn’t know what a doula was exactly or where I had even heard the term, I knew that I wanted one. I knew I wanted to create a positive birthing experience for myself. One that I had not seen. One that was empowered & affirming.

I took a hypno birthing class, spent lots of time in nature, created a long birth plan (which was never used 😆), had a natural birth with no interventions or Ivs. Had Two doulas and a midwife who was a 70 something year old Vietnamese woman. I nearly fired her so many times because she was so short with me and rolled her eyes at all my silly first time momma questions. I was not sure how she was revered as the best midwife in my city. It became clear after I was two weeks “late” and the hospital was preparing to schedule me for a c-section and induce my labor. She came in after I’d been laboring for nearly 24 hours and performed a procedure that magically made baby turn and moments later slide out without a simple breath. This elder Asian woman climbed on the table to perform this procedure. now they call it separating the membrane. Yikes! 😬

Sharing because society still loves to shame and censor birth and motherhood while glamouring the new baby. And it’s about more than the shiny ✨ new baby, gender reveal or a baby shower. It’s about the ceremony & rituals into motherhood.

I’ve been busy working for my clients today on campaigns. I made this earlier today but am just taking the time to post. I want to take a moment to share what I do for a living! Or one of them at least.

I love raising money or providing fund development services. It’s really fun to me. This has been something I’ve been naturally talented at since I was a youth.

At 14, I threw one of the dopest parties in Fillmore at the my summer job, the African American Cultural Center. My friends and I curated the entire event, and I had the clutch idea to request sponsorships from local merchants like Safeway. I drafted a letter and was so juiced to pick up the in-kind donations we garnered. We then sold them at the concession stand during the party. This lit my fire for asking!

Yes, asking! I have grown an affinity for working with Black women leaders, because I noticed they rarely ASK for financial support. And of course as the saying goes, a closed mouth... more on that later.

The industry of fund development or fundraising, encompasses everything from grant writing to events to research to PR to individual donor campaigns to sponsorships to strategic planning, board development and so much more...

I truly love what I do and I my goal is to get more people, especially Black women leaders to make the ask and embrace have fun doing it. I want more Black women to have fun with writing, storytelling, & engaging in research.
I want more Black women to get the millions of dollars in grants that’s out there. Most importantly, I want to educate on how to build a sustainable non profit through grants and individual donor engagement.

I also want to train more writers, events, and marketing people to get into the fundraising profession!

This one challenges me. She insists on chilling in this area, up under my one of my fav Nordstrom’s not cheap! cream colored! knit throw. And messing up all my pillows!

This week has been heavy. And the rainy day has us feeling pensive. I’m reflecting on this time of year and what it all means. Three years ago we survived a car accident, when I was 8 months pregnant with her. The truck smashed into my drivers side door, smashing it in, just inches away from my belly. So I’m extra patient with her, because she endured a lot before she even came earthside.

But this is pure lovable fire.

A major key to my healing & mental health has involved ! As a mama, birthworker, & entrepreneur who delves into scientific research for some of my work- this 🌿, although legal in my region, thank God, still involves much stigma! What’s more, is that Black folks are not centered or positioned to profit in this industry beyond being consumers... which is why I’m excited to share more about lifestyle, community, and holistic healing through on this dope & fresh new platform!
