You've got three seconds to hook your viewer or they'll scroll on ✌️

And when that happens, the algorithm is more likely to bury your content. To prove your posts deserve a place in the feed, keep your skip-rate low with an engaging intro.

While compelling or dramatic text overlays are great at grabbing attention, high-visual or contrarian hooks—basically anything that acts as a pattern disruptor, snapping users out of "autopilot" scrolling —trigger curiosity, encouraging viewers to watch more, which boosts engagement and increases discoverability.

A few of our faves:
• jumping into the frame
• sitting down
• sliding a prop into view
• abrupt edits
• start mid-action (or even mid-sentence)
• taping your mic to (or replacing it entirely with) a random object
• performing a movement, like pouring coffee or practicing a yoga pose

And since many people scroll on mute, make sure your Reels are equally as compelling without any audio as they are with the volume up.
