Had the pleasure of working on a really fun project for Ocala artist Robert Varis! He created a range of products for which he is vending at.

MGSCON is a fan-run convention that encompasses all things Metal Gear Solid. This event takes place tomorrow Saturday August 23rd, 2025 in Ontario, California at the Ontario Convention Center from 10:00am to 8:30pm.

Robert will be located in Artist Alley with 32 other featured artists. Along with these featured artists there will be panels discussing all aspects of Metal Gear Solid, a cosplay contest, and even karaoke! Check out for all the event info.

This was the first project that I worked with Alan on and we ended up hanging out for over an hour talking about the print process and photography in general. It’s always cool for me to see people passionate about their creative process like Alan is.

We ended up running these images at 18x24 inches on Satin Photo Stock. At that larger size you can see more of what’s going on like the manhole cover detail or the cap poppin off the pole jam.

Alan has these on display at Vigilante Coffee in Vista and all pieces are available for purchase.

Walked over to Northern Pine to check out Shawn Daniels’ photo show which I printed some pieces for. There were a lot of Oceanside shots, which Shawn is well known for, along with some really amazing images he took at Glacier National Park.

My favorite part of working on this project was seeing all of the photos of the pier before it caught on fire. Brought back great memories. Thanks for sending this project my way Shawn!

This afternoon I took the train down to Carlsbad to stop by the Art in the Village event and check in with my client Chris Johnson. Chris is an illustrator who can paint and draw in a range of styles and is a digital animator by profession. He reached out to me about a week and a half ago to stock up on prints for this year‘s event. Today was the first time he’s actually exhibited with his artwork and when I rolled up to his booth, it was all smiles. He let me know that the day had been going really well and he already sold a range of prints as well as original works and stickers.

I had planned on buying one of his prints that was of a hummingbird for my Mom but when I saw that artwork as an embellished canvas, I knew that was going to go with.

Another favorite of mine was his series of lantern paintings that you can see behind us. They were inspired by his past trip to Venice, Italy, when he cut down a back alley that happened to be illuminated by lanterns hanging from above. I really like the tonal qualities of each of those pieces and the way that he was able to visualize the chains “disappearing” into the darkness above the lanterns. Really amazing stuff.

Stopped by Mike Smack’s opening of Water + Color. The finished prints looked great in the frames! He also had original watercolor work on display which were a very different style that made for an interesting contrast.

I got a chance to catch up with .sweater and for a bit too. It was great to hear about all of the projects that each of them have been working on.

And now for something new… This is my first time printing for artist Mike Smack and I ended up with another technical first on this project too!

When we met up to discuss what he wanted, we spent time talking through the more granular details of the type of printing offered by Searcher Press. We covered everything from details about pigment inks to the range of papers that are used for Giclée printing.

I don’t recall how it came up but at some point deckled edges were mentioned. I let Mike know that I had experimented with this type of finished edge but have never utilized it for a client. After ripping up a bunch of print samples we settled on an approach that he wanted to apply to some pieces for his upcoming show, entitled Water + Color, making this the first time I have executed deckled edges on a client’s project. Everything turned out even better than expected!

Here are some of those pieces before they were framed. We ran them on 315gsm Etching Stock which is a cold-pressed textured, 100% cotton rag museum grade archival paper. These pieces are not very large at 10x6 inches which allows the deckled edges to be visually prominent.

Mike’s work will be on display at tonight’s (09/09/23) opening of Water + Color at the Solis Gallery in Oceanside. Stop by and see his work in person!

Worked late tonight but I was able to buzz over to Patagonia Cardiff’s group art show Nautical Twilight. Brooke Raines’s work was on display and looked so great! I also got a chance to catch up with my other client Brayden Stephenson and hear about his recent expedition to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He’s got some posts on his account about that experience and there’s some other related projects in the works too.
