Clean, tidy, and organize your physical spaces.

Then watch your creativity, clarity, and energy shift.

Garage? Office? Closet? That catch-all drawer? That “paper pile” you keep moving around?

Just pick something.

It can feel counter-intuitive to NOT open the laptop and “clock in” on whatever work is on your mind and needs to be done.

But sometimes it’s the BEST thing you can do. 🧼

We’ll keep saying it, environment. matters. ⚡️

sometimes it’s really easy to overthink things and you step away and get in your car and then what you really wanted to say the whole time just rolls out…

Pick a word for 2026.

It will serve as the controlling idea for the year and it will change your year.

It’s simple and it works.

What’s your word?

Post-run thoughts 🏃 What if your stance on things was actually your superpower?

I think it was Steven Pressfield in his book, The War on Art, that says something like “What’s worse than love or hate is indifference.” And a lot of us are running marketing and social media campaigns that people are indifferent to.

What if we took a stance on the things we really cared about — things that are important to your company?

What if we, as the guide to our customers, actually shared the unique stance and plan we have that gives them reassurance we know where to take them and it’s somewhere worth going?

At Hoffbeck + Co, at our roots we believe art is disruptive and sharing your stance can disrupt things for good, which allows you to better find and connect with the people you’re aiming to serve.

So, take a stance on something. It might just give you some benefit. 💪

In 2011, I (Lane) got wrecked. I was diagnosed with Rhuematoid Arthritis (RA). Everything hurt. I had no appetite. I lost 40 pounds. I couldn’t climb a few stairs without needing to stop. It was bad.

My whole life to that point I had a healthy, strong body that I could count on. Working out and being active was part of who I was. In about 6 months, I went from benching 285 lbs to only weighing 148 lbs myself and having no strength or endurance.

The worst part was that I didn’t know if this was a forever new normal. Was I going to always be like this? Over a year passed with pretty much zero relief. Living in chronic pain all the time sucks. Like really bad.

Eventually, I found a doctor and got meds, and I started to get some of my health back. I still had crazy pain, but I was interested in eating again. And I could go for a walk without needing to stop to breathe.

This is when I got a crazy idea. And sometimes that’s all it takes to reclaim everything.

I decided I was going to run a marathon. I had never run any races, and I think the longest I’d ever run before was maybe 5-7 miles.

Still deep in RA, I needed a “W” first. I needed to see if my body could actually handle running. So, I signed up for my first race and ran a 10k to prove to myself I wasn’t crazy. I got 3rd in my age group.

Then, I registered, trained, and went on to run the 2014 LA Marathon — one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself in my life.

Life isn’t easy. We all have things that hit us and steal from us. Our health, our money, our belief, our inspiration, our hope, our people.

What I’ve found is that sometimes the antidote to pain is finding a way to use it to fuel something that you never thought possible before.

If I could run a marathon with RA, it was proof that RA wouldn’t write the final line.

RA doesn’t define me anymore, but I used to believe it might. My days are fueled by seeing what RA can’t take from me.

👉 Is there something you need to do for yourself to prove to yourself the thing you are facing is beatable?

Do hard things. Test your hard. See what it can’t touch. See what you can do in spite of it. See what greatness it actually can push you to.

I’m tired of all the marketing talk of “just do this ONE thing” to blow up your business, as if there’s one marketing silver bullet that will work for every small business.

It’s just not true.

Every small business has unique fact sets. Every small business owner has their own goals and vision — their own constraints and availability.

You don’t need to “just do _____ thing” to grow. You also don’t need to do EVERYTHING to have effective marketing.

You do need a perfectly imperfect marketing plan that fits your life, your goals and your business. And you do this by intentionally choosing what you are going to focus on. By choosing where your focus should go deep. By choosing where a little bit will go a long way (instead of doing nothing at all because you’re crippled by feeling like you have to do it all). By choosing what stuff can go to the back burner for now so you can actually be impactful with what you do choose — that fits your business and your real life.

You have permission to quit chasing “the one thing” you’re hoping will work. And to quit feeling like you’re not doing enough if you’re not doing everythinggggg.

Make some decisions to focus on a few things well. Then go do them well! Because the best marketing plan for you is the one you’ll stick to. Consistency is way more important than perfect (because perfect doesn’t exist).

And if you want help making your marketing plan, hit me up. 🤙
