Pinterest is one of the world’s leading platforms for sharing ideas and finding inspiration.

Over 200 million people flock to the social network each month to discover new products, recipes, destinations, articles, influencers, and so much more.

But Pinterest isn’t just for individual users like you and me.

It also represents a huge opportunity for businesses and brands looking to build an engaged audience and drive valuable traffic to their website:
More than 52% of Pinterest users report that Pinterest helps them find items to buy; and
61% say they’ve discovered new brands and products from Promoted Pins.

How to use Pinterest: The insider guide for businesses

How to use Pinterest for business: Overview

Pinterest functionality is a lot different than what you might see on other social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. And it’s constantly evolving!

Let’s start with a quick overview of the various features and terminology you’ll need to know in how to use Pinterest to the fullest.

Pins:
Pins are a central part of the Pinterest experience and they are how users discover new content.
As Pinterest puts it, “Pins are visual bookmarks that you collect on boards. You can save Pins you find on Pinterest or add new ones from your favorite websites.”
Each Pin typically contains an image, infographic, or video and a link back to the original source.

Boards:
I like to think of Pinterest boards as a virtual version of an old-school cork board – allowing users to save their favorite pieces of content (Pins) in one place.
Pinterest explains, “Boards are where you save and organize your Pins. You can make boards for anything and everything—save your recipes to one board and your dream vacation destinations to another.”
Boards allow businesses and brands to curate their favorite content based on hundreds of topics and interests that users can quickly browse.

Repin:
Even if businesses aren’t creating original content for Pinterest, they can still add a ton of value to their followers through Repins.

A Repin is when a user adds a Pin to their own board while browsing Pinterest. It’s important to remember that when a user Repins an original Pin, the user who first pinned the image will also get credit.

Here are some more in depth tips:
1. Stay focused
2. Boost your Pinterest SEO
3. Keep it all on brand
4. Keep your secrets SECRET
5. Use Pinterest like the search engine it is
6. Make sure your pin descriptions are on point
7. Use rich pins to add more information to each (There are five types of rich pin:
article pins - these include the headline, author, story description and link;
product pins - these include real-time pricing, availability and where to buy;
recipe pins - these include ingredients, cooking times and serving info;
movie pins - these include ratings, cast members and reviews;
place pins - these include an address, phone number and map.)
8. Attract new followers with a contest
9. Collaborate with other Pinterest users
10. Find out who's pinning your content (and WHAT they're pinning)
11. Be wise with your link space

While much of the focus over the last few years on social media has been on Facebook and Instagram, LinkedIn has been steadily growing its user base to more than 500 million users.🤑

And we’ve seen first-hand that businesses are working hard on perfecting their LinkedIn marketing strategy so that they can tap into the world’s largest professional network.

With this simple 5-step strategy your business can accelerate the growth of your Company Page by up to 600 percent.

1. Complete your LinkedIn company profile (fully)
Did you know that Company Pages with complete profiles receive up to 2X more visitors than those with incomplete page profiles?

Make sure your page has the following seven items completely filled out:
– Logo
– Company description
– Website URL
– Company size
– Industry
– Company type
– Location
In order to fully complete your profile, head to your Company Page on LinkedIn and select “Overview”:

Make sure to upload a high-resolution company logo and a cover image that captures your brand as well as fill out the “About us” section to provide visitors with more information.
Below the “About us” section you’ll find even more important fields to complete:

2. Create a consistent posting schedule
According to LinkedIn, businesses that post at least once per month have been shown to gain followers 6X faster than those that don’t.
In addition, Company Pages with at least 150 followers typically get 5X more Company Page views than those with fewer followers!

You should aim to post at least once per week to your Company Page to keep your followers engaged (we post twice per week). To help you post consistently to your Company Page, set up a posting schedule so that you can easily schedule posts for your Page:
We’ve found that our LinkedIn content performs really well if we include the following:
Descriptive caption: Helps to provide people with extra context around your content
Eye-catching images: Clean, simple aesthetic helps your content to stand out
Hashtags: A great way to increase the visibility of your content to new audiences
Bonus: Add emojis, questions, and bullet points to switch up the look and feel of your content

3. Re-Post your top content
If you find that your business is running out of content ideas, we recommend to (sparingly) re-share your top posts from the past. Due to sophisticated social media algorithms, it’s likely that only a very small percentage (2-6%) of your followers have seen your posts in the LinkedIn Feed.

If you have a backlog of successful social media content, it’s likely that the content will perform well again in the future.
You can find your top posts under the analytics section on your Buffer dashboard. Select your Posts Report and click “Most Popular”.

4. Engage your colleagues and employees
One of the most influential groups of people that can help you with your LinkedIn marketing is your colleagues and employees. When activated, they can boost your Linkedin content while simultaneously increasing the visibility of your Company Page on LinkedIn.

Help them help you! Here’s how to get your colleagues and employees involved:
Encourage colleagues to engage with your content
According to LinkedIn, encouraging your colleagues and employees to engage with your posts will help to spread to the content their networks, therefore increasing your company’s reach on LinkedIn. As it turns out, the people closest to you could be the biggest asset in amplifying your LinkedIn marketing strategy and growth.

5. Promote your Company Page beyond LinkedIn
No great marketing channel lives in a silo. It takes a coordinated effort across all of your digital platforms in order to see consistent growth over time.
LinkedIn recommends a few cross-promotion strategies in order to experience the maximum growth rate:
Link to your Company Page in your marketing communications, email signatures, and blogs
Email is one of the few remaining marketing channels that businesses truly own (i.e., you’re not subjected to changing algorithms and news feed updates).
One great example of this in action is when we were able to grow the Buffer Podcast by 109% in just two months by cross-promoting it on social media and email:

Introducing Instagram Subscriptions
In 2020, Facebook launched Subscriptions, which has helped creators build sustainable businesses powered by the support of their communities.

With Instagram Subscriptions, creators can develop deeper connections with their most engaged followers and grow their recurring monthly income by giving subscribers access to exclusive content and benefits, all within the same platform where they interact with them already.

Meta has begun testing subscriptions with a handful of creators who will be able to set a monthly price of their choice, unlock a “subscribe” button on their profile and offer the following benefits to their subscribers:

Subscriber Lives: Creators can broadcast exclusive Lives to their subscribers, allowing them to engage more deeply.

Subscriber Stories: Creators can create stories just for their subscribers, allowing them to share exclusive content and to use interactive story stickers with their most engaged followers only.

Subscriber Badges: Creators will see a subscriber badge next to comments and messages so they can easily identify their subscribers.

Earlier this year, as part of a continued commitment to supporting creators, Meta shared that they would not collect any fees from creators on Facebook Subscriptions purchases until 2023 at the earliest, and this will also apply to Instagram Subscriptions.

Facebook Subscriptions Updates

In November 2021, Meta announced that Facebook Fan Subscriptions would be renamed Subscriptions, alongside several exciting updates:

Delivering greater creator control: As of December, Subscriptions creators can download emails of new subscribers (who have agreed to share their email addresses) so they can maintain a relationship off of Facebook.

Helping creators keep more of what they earn: Creators can now use a personalized link to promote their subscription that allows them to keep 100% of the money they earn, excluding taxes. In the coming months, creators will gain access to new metrics about their estimated earnings that will show where their purchases come from, estimated taxes and how much they pay to Apple and others in fees.
