Emily says : So what are everybody’s book recommendations to read while we’re waiting for the light to turn green at Loma? 😂 It’s like sitting in the DMV.
Is CalTrans messing with us?

Anonymous tells me:
I saw people complaining about the Habit.
I got a char-burger with cheese today and a milk shake for $ 15 . The burger is incredibly delicious. Lettuce, tomato, pickle, some magic sauce, beef & bun.
My complaint is my wife will only let me eat there at the most once a week.
I know Morgan Spurlock, a documentary filmmaker who captured his own psychological and physical symptoms from eating McDonald’s every day for a month died this year of cancer but are these burgers THAT unhealthy?
What should I do?

Eric drops the habit:
“Open letter about the Ojai Habit
Bought lunch today for me and my wife around 1230p, went through the drive through. Time spent in the drive through was minimal. Purchased two meals with fries and drinks and the total came out to ~$35 + tax. The price for two to-go meals alone was absurd for fast food and while that is upsetting in and of itself, that isn’t what raised my blood pressure.

Upon approaching the window, the nice gal confirmed my order and asked how I would pay. I presented my card and before I tapped to pay, she informed me that the POS device would first ask me a question that I must answer first and only then I could tap.
Well, that question was tip amount…
I pressed the 20% option and then tapped my card. Then the gal asks me if I want any ketchup to which I replied, “no thank you, but I would like ranch”. She then informs me that it would be an EXTRA $0.68. I sat there stunned for a very brief moment, thinking to myself: “Why did I just add ~$7 extra to my bill out of the kindness of my heart for ZERO extra service and now I am being asked for more money?!?”. I briefly complained to the nice gal but it’s not REALLY her fault. She should have asked PRIOR to requesting payment, but in all honesty, I’m mad at the corporate greed here. Roughly $42 for two burger meals in my opinion should include whatever condiment I ask for. Providing me with roughly 2-tablespoons of ranch isn’t going to make or break your establishment if you don’t charge me for it. not at these ridiculous prices.

My family tips well at all eateries and generally will offer higher than normal because we understand the struggle that today’s low wage workers have to endure. We have plenty of friends on the struggle bus for this very reason. But at this point, I don’t think I will tip any more at the Habit and will honestly think twice before going back again. I’d rather my tips go to the locals how actually provide service.

Do better.”

A long time resident near the Ojai Valley Inn is angry:
“The present iteration of the Ojai Valley Inn, over the last decade or more, has emerged as the worst neighbor anyone in Ojai could be cursed with. Their activities are replete with wild, loud parties, dangerous drivers racing their way to a reservation, and multi axle cargo trucks causing added noise and dangers at all hours of the night.
When we built this home nearly 40 years ago this country drive, and Ojai in general, was quite a wonderfully bucolic environment.
Unfortunately those days are long gone, especially with selfish and greedy neighbor like OVI...”

I believe OVI is the largest employer in the valley. I think they could fix some problems.

Alex says -
How are people supposed to navigate the intersection of Signal/Ojai Avenue? Especially the elderly, children and (not kidding) a blind woman who was completely stumped and passengers in their car had to jump out and help her navigate the huge mess.
How is this even allowed to happen? I know it's Cal Trans, but is this something the City approved? I'm not even sure where to call someone to ask about it. Does anyone know?

I would start with Mayor Stix .

Just experienced the most disgusting event at Vons ever! In the self check-out area, someone dropped a raw, spoiled chicken that burst open. The smell was so intense and disgusting it made me gag! The employees were trying to clean it with paper towels. Yet , the whole time allowing customers to continue using the self checkout not opening other check out registers. This is a hazardous situation at the least. I was told by one employee as I gagged to use the one open checkout where there were at least five people waiting with baskets full. Why did management not close self serve and open other registers? Further, why didn’t management not use a mop with disinfectant to clean properly!?!?! The customer service is awful but this is beyond unacceptable!!!

John says the number of unclaimed p**p bags is troubling.
Christine says “I don’t get it. I call the bike path by the community center Dog Sh*t Row. Same with the road that goes from community center to ball fields.

I’ve lived in the Ojai Valley for over 30yrs but don’t go downtown or to the arcade very often. I had an out of town friend visit and took her up into town for the day to visit shops and have lunch.
It was so embarrassing..the arcade front and back sidewalks looked and smelled like a dog run. We ate lunch outside to enjoy the town and we kept getting strong wiffs of dog urine. Nearly every pillar and post had puddles of sticky dog urine and and we had to dodge mushed dog f***s as well.
I don’t believe this is the image the city wants to portray…it certainly isn’t very hygienic or welcoming!
I don’t know where the responsibility lies for maintenance and cleanup of dog urine and f***s of the sidewalks in the arcade and around town but someone should be responsible for keeping the sidewalks and surroundings power washed and cleaned on a regular basis.
I love Ojai and our beautiful city, I think it’s great that people are free to walk around with their pets, and I’m not blaming pet owners (although they should pick up their dogs p**p)it’s their natural instinct to mark every post, pillar tree etc. I believe the city, landlord, shop owners or all needs to be responsible for at least a weekly thorough cleanup of the arcade and downtown areas. I’ve been to other cute little towns and most keep things immaculate to attract residents and tourists. It’s very sad that Ojai isn’t one of them…

Chris King :
Latest Casitas Water bill: five dollars for water and forty-five for “standby charges”. Extra buck and a half for the “adjudication charges”. I can’t help but wonder how much is in that ‘standby’ kitty. Is it watched or regulated in any way? OVN, can you ask them this question? Any reason legal charges can’t come out of this fund? Good to see overage penalties disappear (for a while) but it’s ironic you can pay that standby for years but earn no credit against overages. And what about those 27 units of “underage” this month. Might I apply them against the dry months. Whew. My little rant for the day.

This is not a funny complaint it’s a sad and serious problem. Racism is horrible.
