Big News! I’m thrilled to announce a new chapter in my career as the Director of Communications for the Greater OKC Chamber of Commerce and the greater OKC region!

The last 10 years as founder and president of Shortt Communications have been an unbelievable journey and learning experience. I’m thrilled to be hanging up my entrepreneurial hat and bringing my talents to this visionary organization for one of U.S. News and World Report’s ā€œBest Places to Live!ā€

Oklahoma City was ranked highly among 150 major US cities for its cowboy culture, low cost of living and quality of life.

Award-winning Oklahoma artist and filmmaker Sterlin Harjo recently received the second-ever ArtNow Focus Award from Oklahoma Contemporary for his groundbreaking work through film that celebrates, uplifts, and challenges notions of what it means to be Native.

Harjo is the brains behind the FX comedy drama series Reservation Dogs, set in his home state of Oklahoma and his Native American community.

Here he explains how he weaves his storytelling and experiences from growing up in Holdenville throughout the series that has received widespread critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including a Peabody Award and two Independent Spirit Awards. The series has also been nominated for a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, two Television Critics Association Awards, and five Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Harjo refers to himself as an ā€œintimate filmmakerā€ who is interested in people and knowing them well. With ā€œReservation Dogs,ā€ he said, ā€œI’m letting you into a world that you didn’t know about; you’re getting to know these people at an intimate level.ā€

If you haven’t watched this series, we highly recommend! The humor is refreshingly authentic, and will have you loving each character’s plight … very reminiscent of the Schitt’s Creek gang.

ā€œWe cannot disconnect the place we are in from the work we do,ā€ says Green Box Executive Director Scott Levy. ā€œGreen Mountain Falls is definitely a special place. There’s something very different about it that I haven’t experienced anywhere else. It’s a tiny thriving community relatively close to Colorado Springs, but it’s like another world. There’s an element of the area that almost feels like you’re back in the 1920s.ā€

Most important, he says, it’s ā€œa place where you can quiet the mind and let the creativity flow.ā€

Levy says his choice for this year's Green Box headliner is the two-week stand by the acclaimed Paul Taylor Dance Company: ā€œThey’ll be doing four public and two not-so-public performances and a public master class. They’ll also be in the rehearsal room with Green Box co-founder Larry Keigwin, whom they invited to create a new work premiering at Lincoln Center in the fall.

And it’s not costly, says Levy: ā€œWe pride ourselves on providing intimate experiences. Most events have limited capacity, and the earlier you know you want to go, you should get a ticket right away, whether it’s free or has a nominal charge. As always, you can come for a day, come for a weekend or come for the whole fest — or come anytime.ā€

These events and all the others exemplify the kind of people-friendly variety that keeps visitors coming back to Green Mountain Falls over the past 15 years. But its deepest appeal is related to getting away from it all. ā€œYou can escape easily into the mountains with amazing contemporary artists,ā€ says Levy.

It’s National Pollinator Week, an annual celebration recognized by the USDA by raising awareness for pollinator health and what we can do to protect them. Pollinator species, such as bees, other insects, birds and bats play a critical role in producing more than 100 crops grown in the United States. Honeybee pollination alone adds more than $18 billion in value to agricultural crops annually.

Here, KFOR-TV NewsChannel 4's Galen Culver shows us how the Mollie Spencer Farm in Yukon, Oklahoma is doing its part to conserve pollinators and combat climate change by supporting healthy ecosystems, air, soil, water, and plants. Follow Mollie Spencer Farm to learn more about Pollinator Week and future events out at the Farm!

A MUST-SEE when you … Exhibition Opening Weekend - True Nature: Rodin and the Age of Impressionism, which opened TODAY and is on view at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art through October 22. Don’t miss out - book your tickets in advance!!

ā€œOne of the many reasons we reimaged and reinstalled the Chihuly collection on the first-floor gallery was to allow the Museum to accept larger exhibitions, such as True Nature: Rodin and the Age of Impressionism. I applaud our team for having the foresight to think long-term, and paving the way for an exciting future here at the Museum. We look forward to bringing more exhibitions that draw a regional audience to Oklahoma City,ā€ said OKCMOA CEO and President Dr. Michael Anderson.

The special exhibition "True Nature: Rodin and the Age of Impressionism" will be on view June 17-Oct. 22 at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

Juneteenth is upon us - and many celebrations around the metro are planned. Make plans to acknowledge the history of slavery in our nation. history lesson below:

General Order No. 3 was an American legal decree issued in 1865 enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation to the residents of the U.S. state of Texas and freeing all remaining slaves in the state. The general order was issued by Union General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, upon arriving at Galveston, Texas, at the end of the American Civil War and two and a half years after the original issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. The order, and Granger's enforcement of it, is the central event commemorated by the holiday of Juneteenth, which originally celebrated the end of slavery in Texas.
