Sometimes I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to do something big… to change everything… to somehow make the whole world better all at once.

But life has taught me that real change usually starts much closer to home.

It starts in our homes.
In our communities.
In choosing to support the people right in front of us.

That’s why I care so deeply about local businesses.

Because behind every small business is a family, a dream, a story, and someone working hard to build something meaningful.

When you support local, you’re doing more than spending money.

You’re loving your community well.

You’re helping families keep going.

You’re making a real difference right where you are.

We may not be able to change the whole world.
But we can change our little corner of it.

And I think that matters more than we know. ❤️

Many local businesses are doing Google Posts… but they’re missing the part that makes people actually stop scrolling:
🎥 They’re posting photos… when videos would do the heavy lifting.

Here’s the plot:
Your future customer is on Google, half-distracted, thumb-scrolling like it’s an Olympic sport. They see a row of posts—mostly photos, mostly the same vibe—and then… a video pops up.

And their brain goes:
“Wait. That’s real. That’s a real place. Real people. Real business.”

That’s why video wins:
- It stands out in the Posts feed
- It communicates more in less time
- It feels more authentic (and trust = clicks, calls, directions)

The “keep it simple” plan (no fancy setup required)

Next time you make a Google Post, record a quick 7–15 second clip inside your business:
✅ Owner or team member sharing a current offer
✅ “What’s new this week” (inventory, service openings, seasonal special)
✅ A quick space tour (yes, even the cute waiting area counts)
✅ Show a product up close
✅ Show how you perform the service (before/after is gold)

Not a camera person? Totally fine.

You can still use video without being on screen:
- quick clips of your work + text overlay
- a slideshow-style video in Canva
- product shots stitched into a short reel-style post

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is: Make your business feel alive when people find you on Google.

Because when Google sees engagement and customers feel confident… you become the obvious choice. ✨

We totally understand the urge. When you’re not showing up, you want to act quickly.

But here’s what can actually hurt your visibility:
🚫 Keyword-stuffing your GBP description
🚫 Adding extra keywords to your business name (called “name spam”)

Google’s rule is simple:
✅ Your business name must match your real, official business name — no extras.
Your customer is searching because they have a problem and need a guide they can trust. If your profile reads like a keyword list, it doesn’t feel trustworthy, and it won’t convert.

💡 Tip from Hire a Momma: Use keywords naturally where they belong (services, posts, Q&A, and website). Clear writing builds trust, and trust gets the call.

Someone reached out to me this week and asked if I could get them “instant verification” for their Google Business Profile.

At first, it sounded innocent, like they’d just heard about a faster way and wanted help. But a few messages in, it became clear they weren’t asking for guidance… they were asking for a shortcut.

So let me say this plainly (because too many small business owners are getting played right now):

If someone promises you instant verification, they’re not being honest with you.

Google verification is an official process. In some cases, you may qualify for a quicker path (like verifying through Google Search Console), but there is no magic loophole you can buy from a stranger online.

And here’s the part that matters most: with Google’s AI getting sharper every day, these “quick fixes” can get your listing suspended — and then you’re stuck fighting to get your business back on the map.

You only get one business reputation on Google.

Don’t risk it on shady DMs and “I know a guy” energy.
