Yesterday was Indigenous Peoples’ Day! I’m a little late in posting, as I was on the road all day, but this is a day worth recognizing and celebrating.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to honor the Indigenous peoples whose ancestral lands we now call home, recognize their rich cultures and histories, and celebrate their lasting contributions to our communities.
In Oklahoma, we are fortunate to have 39 federally recognized Tribal Nations. These nations are vital contributors to our state’s economy and beyond, while continuing to preserve their traditions, strengthen their communities, and advocate for their citizens.
On a personal note, I want to give a special shout-out to my favorite Indigenous man: my husband! 🥰
He is calm, collected, and observant, with a genuine care for his Tribe and its citizens. He makes it a priority to attend Tribal citizen meetings and stay engaged in the issues that matter to his community. I admire his commitment, his quiet strength, and the respect he shows for his heritage.
Today, and every day, I’m proud to celebrate Indigenous peoples, their leadership, their resilience, and the important role they play in shaping our state and our country.
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!
