As we wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to share our final spotlight: Neris France 🌟 Neris France

Neris is a student counselor with Creighton University VIP (Violence, Intervention, Prevention) Services, where she supports students’ mental health, connects them with campus resources, and creates a warm, welcoming space where students feel comfortable opening up about what they’re going through. 💛

With experience across nonprofit, corporate, and education, Neris has been honored with the Nebraska Ivy Foundation Education Community Impact Award, Partnership 4 Kids (Partnership 4 Kids) Advocate of the Year, and the LEDC (Latino Economic Development Council) Health Visionary Grand Marshal Award, among many other awards.

She reminds us of the vital role counselors and mentors play in our students’ lives.

Thank you to everyone who joined our spotlight interviews this month. Let’s keep sharing, supporting, and celebrating the people in our comunidad who help us thrive and push adelante toward a better future. 🙌

The underpricing. The “can you do it for less?” The feeling that you have to prove your value before you can charge for it.

Today, on Latina Equal Pay Day, we’re reminding every Latina:

Tu trabajo vale. Tu experiencia vale. Your price is not an apology.

We don’t need a seat at the table if we’re still being asked to shrink ourselves to fit it.

So charge the rate. Ask for the raise. Send the proposal. Take up space. ✨

Meet Yanira Lizeth Garcia: she took a chance, ran for office, and now represents District 3 on Omaha’s RMTA board. 🚌✨

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we sat down with Yanira to talk about what public transportation means to her and why it matters to all of us. Few women, and even fewer Latinas, serve in roles like hers, and her path is a reminder that our communities belong at the tables where decisions get made.

Her message? Get involved. Decisions about transit and other public services directly shape our daily lives, and right now there’s a chance to weigh in on a proposed Metro Transit Omaha line connecting north and south Omaha.

🎥 This Hispanic Heritage Month, we sat down with Santa Fe-based artist Eduardo Gardea a painter, muralist, sculptor, and author for a conversation about identity, home, and what it means to carry two worlds within you.

Eduardo's journey took him from northeastern Nebraska to Omaha to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and now back home to Omaha for his solo exhibition, "What We Carry," now on display at Ming Toy Gallery.

In this conversation, Eduardo gets real about growing up in Omaha and how it shaped his art, what he hopes young Latinos feel when they see his work, why his partnership with CIRA Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement meant so much to him, and the deeper story behind the exhibition's title.

His story is one so many of us know, “ni de aquí, ni de allá,” but Eduardo has turned that in-between space into something powerful for the next generation to see themselves in.

Okay, we have to talk about this. 🫂

This month, we’ve been thinking a lot about what Hispanic Heritage Month really means to us and honestly, it’s not about a date on the calendar. It’s about the people in our comunidad who show up, day after day, and make life better for everyone around them.

So this month, we’re highlighting three individuals who live their everyday lives helping others through art, through support, through decision making.

Eduardo Gardea (_eduardogardea) is a painter, sculptor, and author who’s spent his life preserving our history and telling our stories through his work.

Neris France (Neris France) is a university counselor who shows up for students on their hardest days, making sure no one has to go through it alone.

Yanira Garcia (Yanira Lizeth Garcia) sits on the Regional Metropolitan Transit Authority Board, showing up in the rooms where real decisions get made for our community.

Un artista. Una consejera. Una líder. Three people, three ways of showing up — and honestly? This is what heritage is all about. ✨
