An upscale boutique hotel is coming to Millwork Commons in 2027.

“Our goal with the brand is to honor the legacy of the artisans who built this neighborhood, while articulating an inclusive and celebratory connection point that brings people together.”

Millwork Hotel will transform a historic building at 1201 Nicholas into 144 guest rooms, a signature restaurant, rooftop bar, and flexible event space — designed to honor the district’s industrial roots while shaping its next chapter.

Smash Park launched in Des Moines, IA in 2018 and helped define the early wave of pickleball-anchored social venues in the Midwest.

SecretPenguin partnered with the founding team in 2017 to help develop the original brand identity and experience.

The concept has since expanded to four locations.
