New CME Cattle limits take place June 1—here's the scoop 👇

- Live Cattle are $8.500/cwt on a standard limit and $12.750/cwt expanded
- Feeder Cattle are $10.750/cwt on a normal limit and $16.000/cwt expanded

Each June, the CME evaluates daily price limits in the Live and Feeder Cattle futures contracts and resets limits based on price variability. The increase in limits is certainly something to consider in your marketing strategy, but these changes happen every year as a result of CME rules.

Another question from our Regional Summit panels, this time from our pork producers!

Where does U.S. pork go?

Exports vary, but Mexico has become a strong customer for U.S. pork in the last few years. Behind them, Japan and South Korea also post solid export numbers. It's a positive sign to see consistent outlets for the swine industry.

On May 19, 1936, livestock representatives and farm organizations came together to create Producers Livestock Marketing Association.

This meeting was held with the intention of establishing a producers house to serve as a marketing agency on the Omaha market. Omaha was the second largest livestock market in the country at the time, which came with plenty of national recognition. However, PLMA would now serve to represent producers on a much-needed local level, as well.

Over the past 90 years, markets have shifted and our business has grown, but one thing has remained constant—our why. We still operate with the same original goal of representing local producers and marketing their livestock to the best of our abilities.

So, what's the deal with the choice/select spread?

Well, with the closure of the Mexican border, cattle numbers have obviously tightened. But that means an increase in domestically produced cattle, which tend to be higher-quality carcasses that grade better. This has led to an increase in choice and prime cuts, and with the price of meat increasing, the greatest demand falls to the less expensive select cuts.
