Julie was in the parking lot checking out the ball field construction when she heard a “thwap, thwap, thwap,” approaching from Cuming Street. A nice blue minivan pulled into the lot with a shredded tire, thus the thwapping.
After being directed into a good spot the driver got out to inspect the damage. He and his wife were on the way to the airport, just ten minutes down the street.
“I guess we’re not going now,” said the man. Julie said that it was a short distance and couldn’t they just call an uber? He thought they would miss their plane.
Julie replied, “You can just leave your car here in my lot and Mike will get you to the airport!”
Dane and his wife Shannon were perplexed, I think, that someone would be so willing to help.
While Mike and Dane transferred the luggage, Shannon explained that they were from York and had spent the last months caring for her elderly mother, who is near the end of life. They were on the way to Albuquerque to visit their six-month old grandson for the first time.
“You’ve got to go,” I said, so off they went with Mike.
They don’t return until next Sunday, and I just couldn’t imagine them coming back to Omaha, changing to their donut spare, and driving back to York, so with the help of Jensen Tire Mobile Service, a new tire will greet their return.
When a need is placed before us, we should always respond.
