social media management and content creation is not asynchronous, despite the industry treating it as such. while these roles work best in tandem the deliverables, skills & outcomes differ wildly..
hiring the wrong one or expecting both for the price of one (this work cannot be found at the dollar general!) is a costly mistake small businesses make.

i wrote about what exactly each role covers, how to diagnose what your business needs support-wise and the questions to ask to determine you're hiring someone with the right skillset.

for some reason, ideation feels so menacing. .
when you rethink content ideation as finding solutions, the mental load eases up because you can see a clear goal. your post is a stepping stone, rather than a lofty end goal. it's small changes like this that can act as a catalyst for different content formats and messaging tweaks to test to take away that road block that once seemed so menacing. đŸ©·

salt air & the rust on your door...
happy august đŸŒŸ.
july has been a struggle to keep organized and what better month to realign than august đŸ©· i'm currently about to move, working on two website rehauls, one client strategy onboarding, one new full-scope client, and then three more brands to manage. a whirlwind, but time for a system update. wooooohoo!

things i'm trying: sunsama, pomodoro timing, and giving myself time-boundaries to stop my perfectionism from stealing ALL of my time away. it ain't much, but it's a start. for my fellow adhd-ers, what helps you stay on top of it without feeling the need to system switch every couple of months?

my fellow smm’s, i’m sure you’ve felt this pain.
business owners, it might feel awkward to describe the way you talk. i promise the awkwardness is worth the output. good thing i wrote a blog to help you through this brand exercise. 😉

there’s a lot of frauds out there marketing new skills to get you fearful/riled up that you’re behind. social media managers who are (are more often than not) type a (baddies!) who are susceptible to this (myself included in my early days) to sell you or make you feel codependent on their content. nonethical in my opinion!!!!!

nail these four fundamentals, and then maybe branch out to a few secondary skill branches, then you’re fine. really.
i broke this down on my blog. live now: https://www.spill-social.com/post/2026-social-media-manager-skills

after two weeks of co*chella and st*gecoach, i am tired. i am tired of seeing people 'wowed' at 8*8, rh*de, re*olve and superg**p when these are the 1%'ers of marketing reality. the brands worth studying are often not the ones screaming at you, and i think that's something worth calling out amongst the "wow did you see bieber wearing pimple patches on stage?" conversation.

look at the ones playing the long game, not being the loudest. ❀ i see you!!!!!!

it's been a week. thank you. 😭
