From an early age I was purchasing all kinds stickers & decals out of magazines to put on my skateboards & bicycles. My freshman year in high school I started taking CAD1 (computer aided drafting) and was really good at it immediately. 9 days after turning 14 I got my first vehicle as a gift from my parents (1987 S10 truck) and immediately started customizing it. I walked into a local sign shop at
age 15 (to get a custom sticker made) with one of my drawings from CAD class. The shop owner was really impressed asking who designed that. When I told him I did he asked how old I was and if I wanted a job. I said sure but I am only 15. He said to come back when I was 18 and he would hire me. Over the next couple years my friends and I kept customizing vehicles and having different logos made. During this time I started learning how to separate, tape & install vinyl plus tint windows. Finally, when I was 17 the shop owner asked "Are you 18 yet?" when I told him I would be in about 8 months he said "Close enough, you're hired.......start tomorrow!" At the time I was working at Wal-Mart in the garden center so I put in my 2 week notice that day and started making signs full time. I was with that sign company almost 10 years managing my own shop most of that time. A couple times I tried out new professions (mechanic, construction) thinking that signs were not what I wanted to do. Eventually I bought some sign equipment & materials and starting offering a few items online during a time when I was also doing construction. I got so busy with it, that I stopped doing construction and was back to signs full time! 15 years later & I'm still running strong!
