"As this law goes into effect, we are entering uncharted territory. Lawmakers who can’t distinguish between a security tool and a "loophole" are now writing the rules for one of the most complex infrastructures on Earth. And we can assure that the result won't be a safer internet, only an increasingly less private one."

For the last couple of years, we’ve watched the same predictable cycle play out across the globe: a state (or country) passes a clunky age-verification mandate, and, without fail, Virtual Private Network (VPN) usage surges as residents scramble to maintain their privacy and anonymity. We've seen.....

"...the less empathy we use with a chatbot, the more we’re rewarded with positive results...people start to ignore the consequences of talking to a human as they’d talk to a chatbot, expecting the same positive results. It’s a vicious cycle of everybody crapping on everybody else..."

We’re prompt engineering anti-social behavior, and there’s a very real cost coming.

"The veneer of Wall Street’s longstanding assertion — that A.I. will enhance human work, not replace it — is rapidly peeling away, as evidenced by the current quarterly earnings season. JPMorgan Chase, Citi, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo racked up $47 billion in collective profits, up 18 percent, while shedding 15,000 employees. All of them credited A.I. to some degree with helping cut jobs and automate work..."

“A.I. gives us places to go we haven’t gone,” said one bank’s chief executive.

"As AI becomes increasingly integrated with education, educators and researchers are finding that it may be eroding students’ capacity for original thought and expression.

A paper published in March in Trends in Cognitive Sciences found that large language models are systematically homogenizing human expression and thought across three dimensions — language, perspective and reasoning — and students and educators say they are seeing the effects of that trend in their classrooms.

And that makes a lot of students sound the same."

As more college students use AI for classroom discussions, some students admit they’re starting to sound alike. Teachers say they’re also getting less creative.

“So Dobby is in charge of the house,” he said. “It’s been really fun to have these macro actions that maintain my house. I haven’t like really pushed it way more beyond that, and I think people are doing a lot more crazy things with it.”

"I don't think a normal person actually realizes that this happened or how dramatic it was."

Local defense attorneys helped cover a hotel room and food on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and a local non-profit, the F5 Project, was able to help her return to Tennessee...While jailed and unable to pay bills, Lipps lost her home, her car and her dog...She also told WDAY News no one from the Fargo police department had apologized. This is far from the first case of an AI error flagging the wrong suspect. In October, an AI system apparently mistook a Baltimore high school student’s bag of Doritos for a firearm and called local police to tell them the pupil was armed."

"...scarcity is reshaping how engineers think about their work and pay. OpenAI President Greg Brockman put it bluntly: "The inference compute available to you is increasingly going to drive overall software productivity." In other words, access to AI may soon matter as much as access to a fat salary and juicy equity awards. As a coder in the AI era, if you don't have access to massive compute, you might end up producing far less software than your colleagues, threatening your career prospects."

AI inference emerges as a critical factor in tech compensation, impacting engineer productivity and Silicon Valley hiring dynamics.

“This creates a concerning cycle,” Littrell said. “Employees who are more likely to fall for corporate bu****it may help elevate the types of dysfunctional leaders who are more likely to use it, creating a sort of negative feedback loop. Rather than a ‘rising tide lifting all boats,’ a higher level of corporate BS in an organization acts more like a clogged toilet of inefficiency.”

Employees who are impressed by vague corporate-speak like “synergistic leadership,” or “growth-hacking paradigms” may struggle with practical decision-making, a new Cornell study into “corporate BS” reveals.

""Not only is AI easier to fool, but experts worry that users are more likely to fall for it. With traditional search results you had to go to a website to get the information. "When you have to actually visit a link, people engage in a little more critical thought," says Quintin...Even when AI tools provide source, people are far less likely to check it out than they were with old-school search results. For example, a recent study found people are 58% less likely to click on a link when an AI Overview shows up at the top of Google Search."

I found a way to make AI tell you lies – and I'm not the only one.

"Minor audiovisual glitches during video calls negatively affect judgments in hiring decisions, and reduce trust in a telehealth provider. And in a hugely consequential realm – parole hearings for incarcerated individuals – glitches were associated with a 12-percentage-point lower likelihood of someone being granted criminal parole."

Glitches during face-to-face video calls – even when the glitch does not affect the transmission of information – can shatter the illusion of being across the table from the other person, evoking “uncanniness,” new Cornell-led research finds.

"The ouroboros just got darker. In October 2025, Perplexity AI launched a Facebook Ad for its new Comet browser featuring a teenage influencer bragging about how he’ll use the app to cheat on every quiz and assignment—and it wasn’t parody. The company literally paid to broadcast academic dishonesty as a selling point. Marc Watkins, writing on his Substack, called it “a new low,” noting that Perplexity’s own CEO seemed unaware his marketing team was glamorizing fraud...If this sounds like satire, it isn’t: the same week that ad dropped, a faculty member in our College of Business emailed all professors and students, enthusiastically promoting a free one-year Perplexity Pro account “with some additional interesting features!” Yes—even more effective ways to cheat. It’s hard to script a clearer emblem of what I’ve called education’s auto-cannibalism: universities consuming their own purpose while cheerfully marketing the tools of their undoing."

Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.
