As we near the end of the Chinese zodiac year of the Wood Snake (completing its cycle on February 16, 2026), it’s allowed me to reflect on the past year — the wins, the setbacks, and how I navigated through them both.

In researching the subject, I learned that the element of Wood brings growth, renewal, and innovation to the Snake’s naturally introspective energy. Together, these forces encourage:

- Creativity and vision
- Nurturing and growth
- Transformation and new beginnings

One of the biggest transformations I initiated at the start of 2025 was stepping into full-time freelance design. It’s been equal parts exciting, fulfilling, and, if I’m being honest, occasionally terrifying. It forced me to confront my weaknesses, sharpen my skills, expand my network, and realign my focus on what I actually enjoy doing.

The Year of the Wood Snake is said to be an ideal time to focus on:

- Personal growth
- Career and finances
- Health and well-being

Personal growth took center stage for me. I poured energy into strengthening my brand, working through imposter syndrome, learning from other designers, and expanding my reach to connect with new clients.

Alongside my professional work, I also invested substantial time in developing a separate brand for my personal art, which is rooted more in intuition, meditation, and pleasure. It’s something I derive personal satisfaction from and a creative refuge as I navigate the sometimes harsh realities of freelancing in a competitive industry.

This piece captures the energy of the Wood Snake in 2025 — earthy, introspective, and quietly powerful. It reflects a year of coiling inward, shedding old layers, and emerging with a greater sense of alignment and purpose.

I just wrapped up a huge illustration project! ✍️✨

Over the past year, I had the chance to create 94 original illustrations for “In the Realm of the Aging Senses,” a new book by Larry Westerman that explores how our senses evolve as we age and enter our golden years. 👑

From the science of sight and hearing to the humor and wisdom that come with growing older, my goal was to bring Larry’s insights to life through hand-drawn, doodle-style illustrations, each one blending research, storytelling, and a touch of playful imagination.

And sure, AI could’ve done this project in a fraction of the time, but I doubt it would’ve captured the warmth, subtlety, and whimsy that make these drawings feel human — a great reminder that sometimes, human intelligence tells the story best. 🙌

When I look back at the start of my design career, I see someone eager to do it all.

I built my first website over a decade ago, determined to find clients and prove what I was capable of, from designing storyboards, logos, exhibits, websites, and graphics (to name a few) for anyone who wanted to work with me. This worked for a time, and I gained real-world experience, but as the years passed, I felt a shift happen within.

I began to see what truly lit me up — helping passionate entrepreneurs, small businesses, and artists bring their ideas to life in a way that felt authentic and powerful. I realized that design isn’t just about how something looks. It’s about the story it tells and how it allows people to experience the world around them.

And yet, my own website wasn’t telling that story anymore, so I rebuilt it from the ground up.

This new site represents not just what I can do, but who I am as a creative partner. Someone who listens deeply, creates with intention, and works collaboratively to bring visions to life. It’s a reflection of my journey as both an artist and a designer, and I’m proud to share it.
