Proud to have worked with Charternet for almost 20 of those 30 years! π
π 30 Years Ago Today, We Helped Build the Internet's Roadmap.
It was 1996. Most people were still figuring out what the internet was β let alone how to use it for business.
There was no Google. No social media. No way to simply "search" for a business online. If you wanted to find a company, a service, or a product on the web, you needed someone to point you in the right direction.
That's exactly what we built.
Thirty years ago today, we launched Charternet.com β one of the internet's first marketing and advertising directories. Before the search engines took over, directories like ours were how businesses got found online. We were the digital Yellow Pages before anyone knew they needed one. A curated map of the web at a time when the web had no map.
Think about that for a second.
There were no templates to copy. No competitors to benchmark against. No industry veterans to ask for advice β because the industry didn't exist yet. We were building the plane while flying it, in an era when "going online" meant listening to a modem scream for 45 seconds and hoping your connection held.
And somehow, it worked.
Charternet.com became a destination for businesses that wanted to be found and marketers who wanted to reach them β at the exact moment the commercial internet was coming alive. We had a front-row seat to one of the most transformative shifts in the history of business, and we helped shape how it unfolded.
A lot has changed since 1996.
Directories gave way to search engines. Search engines gave way to social media. Social media gave way to content marketing, paid ads, AI-powered search, and tools we couldn't have dreamed of sitting in front of those early monitors. The platforms we pioneered on are gone. The platforms we use today didn't exist yet.
But here's what hasn't changed in 30 years:
Businesses still need to be found. And the ones that invest in showing up β consistently, strategically, and in the right places β are the ones that win.
That was true in 1996 when we built Charternet.com. And we're willing to bet it'll still be true 30 years from now, whatever the internet looks like then.
To every client, partner, and team member who has been part of this story β thank you. You're the reason we're still here, still building, and still loving every minute of it.
Here's to 30 years. And to the next chapter. π¦
