I believe that the range of my design experience and background, which goes way beyond graphics alone, gives me a very rich base that informs all of my work. I feel confident that I can deliver refreshing and creative graphic
results to help tell a client's story. While the mailing address of my business is my Orr’s Island home, I work equally out of my home on Park St. in the West End of Portland
. I feel strongly about maintaining a local focus in my life. While not born here, I love Maine and am actively involved in activities at both locations. I was trained in architecture school which is really about learning to solve problems. The skills developed there are fully transferable to other forms of design/creativity. Throughout my career, I have been involved in not only architecture, but large scale community planning/design, wayfinding, placemaking, graphic design and writing. Importantly, through all of my career, there has been a continuous involvement in art, graphics, graphic design. This includes time as an art director at an ad agency. I also maintain a design consultancy,
TOMe LLC, addressing activities in the built environment. Experiences in each area contribute to the richness of result in the other. While the name and logo of the studio involve America’s favorite crustacean, it is not to indicate an exclusivity of subject. It *IS* rather a reflection of the studio’s primary location, where Lobsters are beloved and this studio has devoted a lot of attention to helping tell their important story! The positioning statement of LA Studios sums up my approach/methodology:
Graphically examine problems;
Develop/illustrate “solution stories;”
Have fun! Let’s have fun together!
