STUDY SHOWS DOGS' HEART RATE INCREASES BY 46% WHEN THEIR OWNERS SAY "I LOVE YOU"
A study by Canine Cottages found that when dog owners say “I love you,” their dogs’ heart rates increase by around 46%. The study used heart rate monitors on four dogs and discovered that their average resting rate of 67 beats per minute jumped to 98 bpm after hearing the phrase!
It also found that cuddling caused their heart rates to drop by about 23%, suggesting it made them feel calm and safe. While it was a small study, it supports the idea that dogs can emotionally respond to loving words from their humans.
