A Note from Jackie: Growth, Alignment, and a New Chapter

After years of cultivating stories and strategies through iH**pMarketing, I’m excited to share that I’ve transitioned my work to 3 Pillars Marketing—a space that better reflects the depth, breadth, and regenerative focus of my current work.

This shift isn’t just a rebrand—it’s a realignment. Over time, my skills have expanded beyond h**p into the wider ecosystem of soil health, biochar, and climate resilience. 3 Pillars allows me to integrate systems thinking, ecological storytelling, and digital optimization in ways that feel more true to the work I’m here to do.

If you’ve followed iH**pMarketing for insights, inspiration, or collaboration, I’d love for you to join me at 3PillarsMarketing, where the soil is richer, the stories deeper, and the strategies built to last.

Thanks for being part of the journey. The roots are strong, and the canopy’s just beginning to spread.

A Few Thoughts on Cabbage

I love cabbage. I grow it every year and share it with the cabbage worms. When the white butterflies start coming out, I drape my tender cabbage plants with floating row covers.

They're never 100% effective. But I've found that soaking cabbage in salt water before use is an effective remedy for those little larvae. They float to the top and I scoop them out.

My cabbage is not "commercial-ready" because of the insect damage. But it's tasty and nutritious.

I've found red cabbage is less desirable than green types to insects. And smaller varieties head up a little before the worst infestations. Early Jersey Wakefield is my favorite variety. I haven't found a small, early heading red variety - yet.

And I just read that I'm trendy!! Who knew?

From the New York Times, March 10,2024

"Like so many American food trends, fancy cabbage dishes first started turning up in restaurants on the coasts a few years ago. But they are fast spreading across the country. One chef has compared this cabbage mania to the hoopla over bacon in the 1990s.....among the food-forward, cabbage fever is rising.
“I think 2024 is going to be a really exciting year in cabbage,” the celebrity farmer Lee Jones, of the Chef’s Garden in Huron, Ohio, predicted."

Cruciferous veggies are good for you and creative chefs are going for more than Cole slaw and sauerkraut. I've got my seeds started. They pop up fast and are a cool weather crop so I can plant them when I plant the peas. Here in Michigan that may be next week.

2024 - the year of the Cabbage.

HOW CAN EACH OF US HELP OUR PLANET?

It looks dire for our planet. If we continue business as usual there is very little time left for humans to be able to inhabit our Earth. But it doesn't have to be that way. These changes can be halted, and I believe, reversed.

It takes all of us looking at ways to be kinder and gentler to our Planet. It takes solutions that address planetary problems in a holistic and circular way. We need to think of all the Earth systems as one system, and we're part of that magnificent whole.

We're all part of the problem - and part of the solution. If we keep on as usual - buying plastics that end up as micros in our bodies, thinking fast fashion is hip, and keep eating food that's raised with tons of chemicals - then we're the problem.

As solutionists we can support local farmers, buy US-made clothes made from natural fibers, and turn down/up the thermostat (put on a sweater, in the summer take off a layer).

AND WE CAN BE POLITICALLY ACTIVE! It doesn't take much to send out legislators a letter. If enough people voice their opinion AND vote with their dollars we can change the climate crisis.

This is an important post to read. Click on the link. If you drink tea and if you drink "Taste of India" tea (or use it in your store) they have a serious waste problem. Their packaging is made up of too many different types of materials so it's impossible to recycle, compost, or do anything but bale it and wait.

Our dog, Sedona, seemed to be happy as an only child. But then a stray kitten started hanging around. 3 months later that stray is an indoor kitten and Sedona is his mom. His name is Spice. Beauty and joy come into your life from many directions when you're not looking.

My experience is that no tree falls where you want it. Usually a dead tree that finally falls after a good wind only half falls. It often gets hung up leaning on another tree or caught in wild grape vines that hold it up. Of course, that makes it very dangerous because at any time it can come loose, maybe when you or your critters are… [ 783 more words ]

After a plant has bloomed most nurseries and all the “big box” hardware stores put them on clearance. Even local growers mark their plants down when they are ready to close for the season. This is how an overgrown Salvia plant (Salvia nemerosa) looks at first glance. It is a perennial and has a long bloom season of beautiful deep purple… [ 440 more words ]
