Brrr! Just glad to see some temps above 0°
The next several days show a slow climb out of subzero territory. We've "used up" the most extreme arctic air, and temperatures will begin to moderate by the weekend. While the start of the week remains "boring" (cold and dry), the main focus is on the transition starting Sunday.
A system is projected to move through the Upper Mississippi Valley, bringing light to moderate snow to the region.
Snow showers are likely throughout the day. While models currently suggest modest totals, generally in the 1 to 3 inch range, the "snow potential" icon in your forecast indicates this will be the first measurable precipitation in a while.
Winds will shift to the Southwest and increase to 10–20 mph. While these aren't blizzard-force winds, they are enough to cause some blowing and drifting of the fresh, powdery snow, potentially reducing visibility on rural Southern Minnesota roads.
Interestingly, the snow is arriving as part of a "warm" front. Sunday's high of 26° will feel like a tropical vacation compared to the subzero mornings earlier in the week, but the moisture return is what's triggering this upcoming snow event.
