Earth Day is a good reminder that old tech should be handled responsibly β€” both environmentally and securely.

Before a desktop, laptop, or hard drive gets recycled, donated, or repurposed, your data needs to be handled first; Deleted files are not the same thing as proper sanitation.

Some systems still have value in secondary roles. When they do not, secure disposal matters.

A better process looks like this:

β€’ Back up anything important
β€’ Sanitize the device properly
β€’ Reuse or repurpose hardware when it still has life left
β€’ Recycle responsibly when it does not

At ZAK Computers Oxford, we help home users and businesses handle old technology the right way β€” from backup and secure disposal to practical reuse and responsible recycling.

Questions on how to repurpose or recycle existing hardware? We're here to help.

World Backup Day is almost here β€” March 31 is a good reminder to ask one important question:

If ransomware struck or a hard drive failed today, would your data still be there tomorrow?

Backups are one of the simplest ways to reduce downtime and data loss. In Sophos’ 2024 ransomware survey, 68% of organizations whose data was encrypted used backups to recover, and IBM reports the average global data breach cost reached $4.88 million in 2024.

ZAK Computers Oxford helps home users and businesses protect what matters most with backup solutions designed to guard against ransomware, data corruption, accidental loss, and hardware failure.

Reach out to our team to learn how we can help you back up what matters before it’s gone.
