How to delete your email and phone number from Facebook

It's common knowledge that Facebook knows everything about you, even the data you choose to withhold. Take, for example, your contact number or email address. Many of us opted out of giving this away when we signed up for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, or Instagram because we didn't want to be searchable using these pieces of data.

But, alas, many of us have realized that even if we don't provide data to Meta directly, someone else will. When someone signs up to any of Meta's services, they are asked if they want to share their entire address book to make it much easier to find connections. This is how Facebook got hold of details even if the user had never had a Facebook account.

Thankfully, we now have a tool to delete and keep our contact numbers and email addresses from Facebook permanently, even when someone we know agrees to share their entire address book.

SECURITY ALERT - WINDOWS ALL VERSIONS: Massive Global Ransomware Attack Underway

A serious virulent ransomware threat has affected Windows computers in at least 74 countries worldwide, with 57,000 reported individual cases being affected. And according to the analysis team at Kaspersky Lab, that number is growing fast.

Once one computer on a network is affected, the malware infection easily spreads to other Windows computers on the same network, shutting down entire government agencies and national infrastructure companies. Hospitals across the UK were being forced to divert patients and ambulance routes as of Friday afternoon, and several utility companies across Europe reported infection across their computer networks according to BBC News.

What Is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a kind of malicious script or software that installs itself on your computer without your knowledge. Once it’s installed and running, it will lock down your system and won’t allow you to access any files or programs on that computer. Usually, it will alert you to the lockdown with an impossible-to-ignore pop-up screen which informs you that your computer is being held for ransom. To unlock your system and regain access to the computer being held hostage, the lock screen informs you that you must purchase an unlock tool or decryption key from the hacker.

How Can You Tell If Your Computer Is Infected?

The most obvious way to tell if your computer has been affected is if you are seeing a ransomware pop-up screen when you start up your computer. But because we don’t know how long the malware sits on your computer or network, not seeing this pop-up isn’t necessarily an indication that you haven’t been infected. The bottom line: if your Windows computer has connected to a shared network, such as those found in schools, public places, cafes, every computer on that network that has not been keeping Windows up-to-date could be infected.

How to Protect Yourself From the Vulnerability

According to Microsoft a fix for this vulnerability was released on March 14th for all affected versions of Windows. If you are running Windows and have automatic updates enabled you should be okay. If you don’t and haven’t updated recently you should update to the most recently released version immediately. It is important to note that unsupported versions of Windows, like XP, did not receive this security update. Those systems should either be isolated or shut down.

Please pass this along to your friends and family. Those that are less technical may not have updates auto-enabled, and may need a helping hand updating their operating system.

It AMAZES me how many scammers there are in the field of WEB DEVELOPMENT, WEB DESIGN AND SEO. I have been in this industry for over 15 years, and I am currently reviewing employment applications. At least 80% of what is stated by candidates is BS, and i know this by looking at their work. They can easily BS customers, but not someone in the industry.

Do yourself a favor if you are a business owner in the market for a website or digital marketing presence. Get a personal referral, or failing that, have the candidate thoroughly vetted.

Much of the time the buyer will not notice technical issues as many are transparent to the customer. This is why the scammers get away with grandiose professions of their abilities.

The end result is you get a site that loads slower than it should, and does not index well in the search engines. You may not notice this because you have no point of comparison. Your business page just does not perform as well as it should, and sometimes the difference between technical optimal and bad is massive.
