We absolutely love connecting organizations to their target audiences through beautiful design. Through design consultations, creative concept development and art direction, we create a full range of high-level print and digital marketing collateral that aligns with an organization’s strategic goals and objectives.

I'm kicking this year off by partnering with Stanford School of Medicine to design an annual report. 📚 📚 I just LOVE report design y'all!

I will be working to illustrate the synergy and resource/knowledge sharing between two organizations within SSM that are working to evolve maternal and perinatal healthcare in California to be more effective, equitable and comprehensive.

This report will be the first of it's kind— a joint annual report, combining these two organizations. I am soooo looking forward to sharing their impressive research and further helping them achieve their community outreach goals!

First time at and first time in 🌲☕️🍩

I loved that the sessions were only 10 or 20 mins long with time for questions, and bc this was a niche group of peeps it felt like a bunch of friends getting together. It happened at a restored high school- man what a super cool setting.

Took advantage of the weather (when it got cooler- it was 100 when I arrived 😳) and booked a foodie tour through one day, had a breezy working lunch with some tasty rosé, and a donut tour!!

Met up with other Texas design educators..... and got encouraged to submit a proposal to present next year.

So happy!!! Totes everything I want a conference trip to be 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Professional Graphic Designers are not ❌order takers ❌

Throughout my career I've had some design positions where my work life resembled a factory, constantly churning out work in a rush because someone failed to plan ahead or failed to truly consider what it takes to produce great work.

Constant in graphic designers daily lives are projects where someone requests work (and changes) that are completely subjective; however, our job is to think largely about the brand/business and consider what will get the reaction that is needed from the right audience. It is beneficial to no one, then, that we hop on the computer once someone gives a couple of details to just design something the way they want it. It simply doesn't work.

Graphic design projects require following a design process, which opens the mind's door to unique and custom ideas that allow projects to stand out in a sea of sameness (especially when template designs exist everywhere).

Let's allow design professionals to utilize their powerful thinking capabilities and the freedom to explore so that projects receive the maximum impact they deserve.

Professional Graphic Designers are not ❌ desperate ❌

Boy, if I had a penny for every time someone thought their poorly planned timeline, promise of future work, or carnival of hurdles to jump warranted my time...I'd be a billionaire. This hasn't happened to me in years since I've designed my sites to reject this, so if this is happening to you what are you doing to stop it? Anywayz...

SURPRISE! Professional graphic designers aren't desperate!

Cringingly, graphic designers are not alone; this happens in every industry. The assumption that a freelancer, independent contractor, or small business is sooooo desperate for work just because they aren't working at large corporation or agency is completely unfounded. Wake up peeps!

Cheap + fast + desperation = bad design (i.e. no return on investment)

Professional Graphic Designers are ✅ Strategists for sure! 💯

Oh yeah! When someone hires a professional graphic designer, they are looking for a person who can use strategy in their design process. Designers should take on design projects from a holistic approach, considering things like marketing goals, company values, and business needs in order to craft ideas that are trailblazing, fresh, and even radical at times. Even businesses that seek traditional designs are aware that they are in competition for someone's attention and it is our job to consider all it takes to give life to their visual communications.

Professional Graphic Designers are not ❌ mind readers ❌

Ok, I don't believe that clients think that we can actually read their minds. What does happen during projects, however, is that clients think graphic designers magically know how to solve their design problems just because they tell us what they are looking for. I must say that I certainly appreciate the trust in my power, but I gotta have more depth than that.

I try to help clients understand how graphic design works by comparing it to a doctor's appointment. Your doctor listens to your issues, but doesn't always have the answer to your issue right away-especially if vou are a new patient because they do not know much more than what they read on your chart before your appointment. They send you out for all kinds of tests in order to get a deeper look into what's going on. They then study your history and then try to come up with a solution for whatever is happening. This is similar for graphic design projects. I have a pretty lengthy questionnaire I use for discovery calls so I can get the full picture of what is going on and what is needed to solve the problem.

The deeper we connect with a client on who they are, the better equipped we are to visually tell their story to a specific audience and differentiate them from others. 💯

Professional Graphic Designers are ✅ big Thinkers ✅

Gosh, I ❤️❤️ thinking. Nope...I'm obsessed with thinking! Did you know I majored in Philosophy in undergrad? Those gifts I obtained (thinking big, analyzing, researching, and asking questions) are what I use every single day in my design-thinking process.

Graphic design is problem-solving. It is not coming up with an idea magically in a few minutes and jumping on the computer to make something happen. What is magical in the design process, however, is how much greatness can be uncovered when designers are allowed to think through solutions and work our way through challenges that ultimately create things that would have never come to mind otherwise.

Professional graphic designers exist to help clients tell their own, unique stories-not copy someone else's. Results come through thinking things through. Is this not the same in daily life?

Professional Graphic Designers are not ❌ Free ❌

I can't believe conversations still arise about paying for work that is asked for. It happens across many other professions as well.

Fortunately, as I have grown in my career, and now in my own business, I can be highly selective with the projects AND clients that I take on.

The truth is that there are great, wonderful clients who trust graphic designers to do amazing work and are more than willing to support those efforts by paying them what they deserve. CHEERS TO THEM!

In the end, the old adage always stands true, "you get what you pay for". 💯
