To all of our family, former employees, and customers that graced our doors for many years….

My heart is breaking as I write this post…. There’s people that come into our lives that you feel you’ve known a lifetime and they become family. That’s how it was with Margie and Butch the day she came to work with us at Rupert’s Cleaners. She was not only my employee but was my friend and most days my lunch mate. She instantly became someone I could depend on not only at work but in my personal life. She was my “sister” friend who was always there for me, never sugar coated anything and always told me the truth even when it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. When Braylee was born they both instantly became her aunt and uncle always encouraging her to strive for the best in all she did. Then Hurricane Michael hit I was lost when she moved back home to Pennsylvania to live with her nephew and his wife, Richard and Michelle, but I knew it was best for her to be with them. My dear friend hated talking on the phone, but when I could catch her we talked for quite a while. This morning I received a call telling me my dear friend has passed away. She has fought a long battle with diabetes, kidney dialysis, heart issues, and her body was just too tired to fight anymore.

I will miss you my friend and I could not have gotten through a lot of things without you. Your voice will always be there and thoughts of you will be so ever present. I will celebrate you when memories pop up of you and I know God put you in my life because he knew I needed someone special to walk and talk through life with. Rest In Peace Margie, I love you.❤️

The final chapter of Rupert’s Cleaners happened this morning as I signed papers at the closing for the sale of our building. We were blessed for years to be neighbors with Carpet Connection who was always there if we needed anything. Since the hurricane when we moved all the equipment out, they have been using the building for storage. Today they purchased our building and I couldn’t be more happy about them buying it. A huge thank you to Christin with Setco Services for handling our closing as always she made it a smooth experience!! Although this transition has been bitter sweet it is time for Rupert and I to move on and enjoy our retirement together. 😃🍾😃

August 3rd, 1987 Rupert and I opened Rupert’s Cleaners with 5 employees. After much prayer and seeking God’s guidance, it is with a heavy heart to announce that after 31 years Rupert’s Cleaners will be closing due to Hurricane Michael. Thank you Bay County and surrounding counties for your faithfulness and allowing us to serve you for 31 years. We have met so many wonderful people over the years and feel like family to so many of you. I will definitely miss the stories and catching up with your families. To our present and past employees, thank you all, you were the heart beat of our company. May God continue to bless and watch over all of you through this difficult time and the future. ❤️

Unfortunately we are still waiting to hear from the insurance company on our claim. Our prayer is that you and your families are doing well and getting a lot done since the hurricane. As soon as we have news you will definitely be the first to hear!!

I know it seems we have been MIA. But, our attorneys and the insurance company is working diligently to have Rupert’s Cleaners open and operational once again. We hope to have good news real soon so that Rupert’s Cleaners can once again take care of our family and friends dry cleaning and laundry needs. Stay tuned we should know something soon!!

2018 was a year of beautiful memories, new friendships, tragedies, losing loved ones, and blessings. But, the most talked about moments will be that day in October where four hours changed all of our lives, our town, and for many renewed their faith in God, our neighbors, and the thousands that came to help in our time of need. As for Rupert’s we still do not know what the future will bring just like so many of you. We are still playing the waiting game to begin rebuilding to open our doors in 2019 to come back to serve you. We pray as you continue rebuilding your homes and lives through this tragedy that God will bless you and watch over you!!

There seems to be a rumor going around that Rupert’s Cleaners is closing and not coming back. We recently sold our Thomas Drive store to Vick’s Cleaners out of Pensacola so our customers would continue having a store at the beach and another store that our in town customers could go to.

Progress on our main plant on Jenks Avenue....
Last week we had all of our equipment removed and sent to an equipment company in Birmingham to evaluate, clean and repair what can be saved, and to receive quotes and order what needs to be replaced.
Our building at this time has been evaluated and suggested to demo it down to the steel frame and re-skin our building. We are still receiving quotes on the interior makings of the plant and will then be submitting everything to the insurance adjusters.
Just like most of you, dealing with this horrific storm we have just come through is new to all of us and the process can be slow at times.
They are telling us it could be up to a year to having us up and going.
Thanks to so many of you that have reached out to us. I definitely miss going to work each day, being there with our employees, taking care of and visiting with our customers each day.
