etitive enthusiasts — the founders of SIMBOL have all the tools to get powerful stories to the right audience. Nic Sims was introduced to cycling by his father and the rest is history. He raced mountain bikes and wrenched for several road and mountain bike teams. In 1998 he moved to the US to work for Specialized, first in Customer Service, then R&D, and finally Sports Marketing and Global PR. He became the “Face of Specialized” and attended multiple Tours De France as well as other cycling classics. He moved on to Alpinestars to be their Technical Communication Manager, allowing him to get a behind-the-scenes view of motorsports including Formula 1, Moto GP and Supercross. He had the opportunity to try out motocross and attend road racing track days. In 2013 He returned to the cycling industry to work for SCOTT Sports where he oversaw the marketing and public relations for the bike division and was involved in the running and skiing departments. Throughout his life Nic has had the distinct pleasure of turning hobbies into jobs. Scott Boulbol has made a successful career working in the industries he loves as a marketing and PR professional as well as a freelance journalist. After receiving degrees in Journalism and Film Studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and co-authoring The Trailrunner’s Guide to Colorado, Scott began freelancing to finance his competitive running, cycling, triathlon and adventure racing for publications like TrailRunner, Running Times, Triathlete, the Rocky Mountain News and many more. He began taking on more marketing content projects and writing for PR firms. This led to a Global Marketing position at Specialized Bicycles and later a Brand Manager job at Trek/Bontrager. Since then, while continuing to get his work published in some of the most influential publications in in the cycling, outdoor and fitness industries, he’s also been working as an independent PR/Marketing contractor, helping successful brands like Knight Composites, Sound Probiotics, Skora Running, the Bolder Boulder and many more, enjoy national and international media coverage. He also built powerful ambassador programs and developed/optimized their collateral content.

There are a few things that you should TWIST and shout about, one is the FIDLOCK bottle system. This year is the 10th anniversary of their TWIST technology. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of bottles have been saved from getting ejected and lost in the woods. Thanks to a magnetic and mechanical locking system, FIDLOCK bottles don't jump out and hide from you. Thanks to Mountain Bike Action Magazine for their review of the 750 bottle. "Many of us are sold on the easy-to-use actuation and versatility of the Fidlock Bottle & Base System, particularly those withspace constraints in the front triangle of the frame and can’t see ourselves going back to a traditional bottle cage."

The Fidlock Twist Bottle 750 and Bike Base uses a magnetic locking mount, compact 750ml bottle and low-profile design for secure, easy MTB hydration.

Big thanks to Bike Action for posting about the old skool get-together we held at Sea Otter. It has been amazing to see all the good comments from people. We're excited to see who we can bring together for the next one. We'd love to hear any suggestions you have. It doesn't have to be company founders; it can be that amazing unsung team mechanic, a racer, or someone who has made a difference in our sport and hasn't really received the recognition they deserve. This is our chance to give them their moment in the spotlight.

Sutton Speakeasy #1 features Jim Gentes, Craig Calfee, Keith Bontrager and Jim Turner sharing stories behind Giro, Calfee, Bontrager and early e-bike innovation.

Thanks to Electric Bike Report for their shout-out to FIDLOCK. It's nice to see them mention all the FIDLOCK products that can really make a difference in your riding experience, on e-bikes or any bike. Vacuum phone mounts, check out the YouTube video of Bernard Kerr riding the Redbull Hardline with his phone mounted to the bars, never missed a call. TWIST bottles celebrate 10 years of doing it differently. Never lose a bottle again.

Cool to see the other side of FIDLOCK, most people know them for the bottles, vacuum mounts, but they have a whole partner side. They work with brands like ABUS, MET, Kali, Transition, and Canyon, to name a few, on the bike side. But look at this HICONSUMPTION article on the best new EDC essentials. They have the CASIO G-SHOCK DW-5600MNC-1 that comes with the FIDLOCK clasp. Just another area where FIDLOCK makes things better.

In a world of lighter, stronger, stiffer — ceramic this, titanium that — we sometimes forget the people. The people who have innovated, pushed, and helped shape this sport into what it is today.

I am finally happy to share the YouTube video from a special Speakeasy event that Rick Sutton, Espinoza, and I put on at this year’s Sea Otter.

I grew up biking in the UK and always looked forward to the new issue of Mountain Bike Action showing up in the mail so I could see what cool stuff was happening in the US that I couldn’t get in the UK. I saw pictures of the gear and read the names of these guys, and now I can say I have been privileged enough to shake their hands and thank them for what they have done.

This group of amazing people — Jim Gentes, founder of Giro; Keith Bontrager of Bontrager components and bikes; Craig Calfee of Calfee Bikes; and Jim Turner of Optibike — have all pioneered the use of materials, design, and manufacturing to bring us products that make our riding safer, faster, more enjoyable, and maybe even more fun.

We owe these guys a big hand for what they have done.

We’ll keep looking for our next group of unsung heroes who we owe a big thanks to, but for now, grab a drink, sit back, and enjoy some stories about these guys and what drove them to do what they did.

Please share this and help tell their stories to others, too.

Thanks to the good folks at PezCycling News for their review of the FIDLOCK twist water bottle system. If you never want to lose a bottle again, you have a small frame, or a frame that limits bottle use, you might want to look at FIDLOCK. The TWIST system can solve many of the issues, and it's celebrating 10 years this year. Sometimes the simple things are the best and just work.

Pez reviews the Fidlock Twist 590 bottle system with an innovative magnetic-mechanical interface for secure and easy use.

Well, here's another, thank you. This time to Byron at Bike Hugger, he, like me, has had some issues with hip packs, and he says he just found his new go-to, the FIDLOCK dual TWIST bottle mount Hip Pack. TWIST is FIDLOCK's proprietary attachment system for attaching bottles to packs and bikes. It utilizes a magnetic/ mechanical system; this method pretty much guarantees you will never lose a bottle again. And this year the technology celebrates 10years, that's a lot of saved bottles.

The Fidlock Hip Pack with magnets instantly became my go-to choice. I’m picky about hip packs—like the princess and the pea. Fidlock has always seen the

Big thanks to Seth from Berm Peak for a great video on the FIDLOCK self-sealing Heremetic hydration bladder. Is it weird? You be the judge. This product has won a Design and Innovation award for its technology. These awards, I have heard some say, are the Oscars of the Bike industry. These bladders, and even their dry bags, use the same technology: they're easy to open, clean, and fill, and they self-seal. Heremetic self-sealing is just one of the many award-winning technologies that FIDLOCK produces.

The Sea Otter Classic is where many of the latest, greatest, and not-so-greatest products make their debut, and the show always delivers some strange, cool, ...

Big Thanks to the The Cycling Independent and their Paceline podcast. Listen to Patrick and Lori chatting with Ingmar the founder of the next big thing in fitting AiRO. The program that utilizes Ai and CFD to build your 3d digital twin. A twin you can manipulate to find the ideal aero position. Run different position comparsions, try different helmets models in the program. Then hit simulate. In 7 minutes you'll get data that matches wind tunnel results at a much lower cost. The search for free speed just got really cool.

This week Patrick and Lori welcome Ingmar Jungnickel, an aerodynamicist and the founder of AiRO, a fitting system based on rider aerodynamics. AiRO uses CFD (computational fluid dynamics) to simula…
