This is easily one of the most common questions I get from my clients ✨

Here’s the breakdown…

For domestic weddings, this is my recommended timeframe for best-to-latest timeframe for sending invitations.

Planning a destination wedding? I treat those separately and recommend sending invitations 9–10 months in advance (after a detailed save the date) so guests have time to plan, book, and budget.

No matter what, your RSVP window matters most—keep it tight at 6–8 weeks. Too much time and it gets forgotten on the fridge; a shorter window creates just enough urgency and saves you from chasing people down later.

And yes—there’s advice out there saying to send invites 2 months before your wedding (or less).
Trust me… you don’t want to do that. Here’s why:

• You lose time for day-of stationery (and replies are never 100% on time) Allowing 2 months for day of stationery ordering and production is ideal.
• Your seating chart becomes way more stressful. (This is already one of the most challenging parts of planning—even with plenty of time.)
• Final payments start stacking up. (The more you can check off ahead of that final 1-2 month window, the better.)
• You lose flexibility with your guest list. (If you have a secondary guest list, an earlier timeline allows you to send a second round of invitations as declines come in.)

The goal? Enough time to plan—without creating last-minute pressure.
